What was your total cost? I’m setting stuff up for first of the year and want to budget.

$93 + vendor fee for livescan ($130 for me)
$300 for CCW licensing fee
$200-$400 for 16 hour training
+$ for ammo if you don’t have any for live fire qual
$150+ for holster and belt

I thought about it, but won’t purposely drag it unless I’m close. You could technically lag on uploading your training and paying your licensing fee until 2027 (not 100% sure if there’s a time limit between interview and approval) but again, looks like I’ll be moving at a quicker pace.

I started the process expecting a 2 year license. The 3 year may just be a bonus for next years renewal.

I'd pass on TRB. They ask for way too much info about each gun you're qualifying with. Info they don't really need/isn't a requirement being passed down by OCSD.

This is a good point and it deserves more attention than it gets. How anal an instructor is about documenting your firearm belongs on the vetting list.

RN the criteria we tend to focus on are costs and class length and maybe whether the classroom half is remote or in person. All useful but add one more: how draconian is this instructor about documenting your gun?

What actually identifies a firearm is make and model and the serial number of the serialized component. The frame or the FCU etc. That's it. Not the slide. Not the barrel. That's what goes on the license and that's what the agency cares about.

What shouldn't matter is a red dot or WML. Those are accessories and not modifications. If you can pass a course of fire with irons you can pass it with a dot because the dot makes it easier right? Qualify w/ the dot and be done and run the gun however you want after that. Every conversation I've had with LE here in OC says they don't care either.

And yet there are instructors who will tell you that you need to qualify twice on the same pistol w/ the same serial number because one run has an optic on it and one doesn't. That is not a safety standard that's a BS billing strategy.

I'm not talking about a genuinely different gun eg G34 slide on a G26 frame But a matching slide with an optic cut is the same pistol it was before IMHO. What if you switch red dots? Requalify? F that!

If an instructor is inventing requirements that any penal code doesn't ask for and the IA doesn't ask for then people should know that before they hand over their $.

ccw has always been taught by jackasses here in general. Same people that want to be RSO’s and belong to HOA’s. Over eager boot lickers. It’s like these idiots on social media that constantly tell on themselves. Why? What kind of attention did you all not get growing up?

Yeah, I didn't like the per-gun charge for the qual, but it was a tradeoff for me being able to do the classroom portion online at my convenience instead of giving up an entire weekend for it.

I went with TRB Training in Fullerton last year. I believe is $289 which includes Multistate or $239 without. They do alot of draw & reload drills in class and on the firing line.
