CFARS bullet button deregister

Anyone have any success or know anyone who "deregistered" their BBAW with CFARS? Going to get rid of my MCX but not even gun stores will take it without deregistering it first (and converting it obviously). Yes I know I can part it out and keep the lower but if I can slap a maglock on this and call it day I'd rather do that as my other rifles are more fun. I have the parts to make featureless also if I have to go that route.

Until a few weeks ago, I had heard online that nobody had ever successfully deregistered, and that the DoJ had not set up any process for it and wouldn't know how to handle it if someone tried. And then, a few weeks ago, someone reported succeeding in deregistering a BBRAW. I think they had to do it by writing a letter. The only thing is, I don't remember where they posted about it. Try this forum first, or Reddit. I don't think it was on the Calguns forum, not sure though.

Thanks I've looked in a lot of places I basically get told I'm an idiot for wanting to deregister and sell my entire rifle instead of keeping my lower as a registered BBAW. This is the email I got in response from the CA DOJ but no where can I find someone actually successfully deregister whether that be recieving a letter back confirming deregistration or a phone call. Highly doubt they would ever call.

Does anyone know if you strip it down to a bare reciever can you remove the "bullet button" to deregister? Or do you have to leave the "bullet button" on until its been deregistered?

Per AW regulations, simply removing the upper and the lower makes it no longer an assault weapon. Therefore it should not matter if the bullet button is still on it or not. However, knowing the DOJ, it would probably be smart to leave it on there until the photo is taken. Even more importantly, leave it CA compliant at all times in case they show up to inspect it.
