CFARS New Resident

So i’m getting wild answers from searching. How long does CFARS take to acknowledge out of state firearm registration or new resident registration I’m seeing like 12 days to a year which seems kind of crazy.

I’ve already purchased pistols since moving here if that helps.

Also does anyone know where it flags if they want photos?

Okay, so first of all, make sure you fill out the proper form. If you've been here over 60 days, don't fill out the "new resident form". Even if your brought the firearms into the state today. Ask me how I know. Rejections and requests for photos will come immediately, everything else takes about 3-4 months to be approved. Again, ask me how I know. Certain firearms will trigger requests for more photos: whole firearm, magazine and release, serno and make/ model. Don't provide these unless prompted. The three guns of mine that got flagged were a Chinese SKS, Chinese Mosin and... Taurus G2S.

The rest of my firearms went into an approved status within a couple weeks. Those three sat "in progress" for like 90-120 days or so. Then all of them, even the approved ones switched to "in progress". Don't panic. That's your signal that they're sending your hard copy paperwork, which will show all the firearms you've registered. Once you have that paper in hand, you're good. You can get your CCW, purchase firearms and ammo, etc. (Provided your license is valid and up-to-date). As far as I know, all of my firearns are still "in progress" on CFARS. I stopped checking like a week after I had my hard copies, since that's all that really matters.

It’s 60 days of the firearm entering the state on the sight. Is that not correct? I have a few I think might trigger “photos please” but not sure where that will even show up.

I also have to transfer a ton of firearms from my father to me still which I see is a different form with a different fee.

Yep, sometimes it'll go back to approved and then in progress again a week later. Its completely random every time I am on CFARS.

I'm not surprised, my USNA is also still pending 5 years later as well. The website is a complete POS.

What are you waiting for?

The requirement is to “complete and submit” the report of ownership. Once that is done (paid fee and clicked “enter’”) your responsibility under the statute is complete.

Your actions with those firearms are not constrained pending a response regarding the filing.

The new resident report is based off of when YOU enter there state, not the firearms. In my case, I was here for like four years before I brought them in. In that instance, if you use the new resident form, it WILL get kicked back. In that case, you won't know until you receive a letter in the mail letting you know you've used the wrong form, which will add at least a month to the whole process. I'm speaking from experience, so

The new resident form is for 60 days of YOU entering the state. Please scroll up to see my response to the previous forum member. TLDR; if you use the new resident form and YOU'VE been here over 60 days, it will get kicked back.

Additional photos will be requested on CFARS.

Correct. Once you have the hard copies, CFARS doesn't matter.

For me everything I brought out of state they wanted photos for expect my Glock and my shotgun and 22 or else they kick it back I got everything in the mail within a month. If they want pictures they will send it back it’s safer to send pictures so it doesn’t delay it. Never had a problem with the website they have been helpful when ever I call.
