Checking Ammo On Domestic Flight

I have searched but cannot find reliable information so I ask the brain trust.

American Airlines.

I understand I can fly with up to 11 pounds in checked baggage.

My question is, does the ammo that is the factory package have to be packaged again in a separate container or can I just put it into my checked suitcase and declare the ammo?

Just put it in there and declare it, be ready for them to open the suitcase.

Nope , factory packaging is fine , just let them know at check in and send the bag through , it can not be in your carry on , checked bag only , I believe Delta is 10 pound limit

Factory packaging, or packaging designed to contain ammunition. I use the plastic ammo boxes with hinged lids, and have never had an issue.

Exactly what I do, BUT I use the CLEAR boxes, so the counter monkeys don’t have to actually open the box.
LOCK the checked suitcase, with NON-TSA locks. I carry a set of spare locks with me through security, in case some idiot cuts them off beyond initial declaration and check-in. Lastly, and this is for ANY checked baggage, a GPS device is in the checked baggage. Air Tags can be used as well.

Question, is it required to be locked if it has ammo?

Where can I grab some CLEAR boxes so the counter monkeys don't open the box?

I was thinking about 500 rounds so my wife doesn't get too pissed with the space "my side" takes up

The requirements for “ammunition only” being locked are somewhat ambiguous, unlike firearms, however if you read the following, it would seem that ammunition would also be locked:

I would NEVER send ANY checked luggage through an airport without locks. Why help the monkeys steal? Make them at least work for it. YMMV.
