Just lucked out and got a spot in the class for April 8-10. A question for anyone in past classes, should I fly into Birmingham or Atlanta? Any other info anyone would like to pass on would be appreciated. Thanks. Jim

Birmingham for sure. Atlanta is usually one hot mess of traffic, its the busiest airport in the SE I believe. Birmingham will have less flights, but sufficient to come/go and vastly less traffic. Make some time to check out Barber Motorsports (https://www.barbermuseum.org/ - just east of Birmingham) and their multi-story museum of motorcycles, I've done a few track days there it it never disappoints.

I went to the AMC in 2018, and it was during Talladega Week. When I tried to book hotels in/around Anniston (this was about eight months before the class), I was (politely, as is the southern way) laughed at over and over, haha!! "That's Talladega Week, boy!" Finally, I asked, "Is Talladega a big thing there?". One guy said, "Son, you have no idea. The hotels around here get booked years in advance."
Finally, one innkeeper took sympathy on me and suggested I try looking for hotels in Breman, GA (near-ish the GA/AL border). That worked out fine, and I flew in/out of ATL as a result. As someone posted, ATL gets super busy. Even with Global Entry/Pre-Check I barely made my return flight.
As for the class: It was some of most fun I've ever had in my decades-long gun hobby. Just the tour of the CMP warehouse was worth the trip, and I got to build my M1 Garand on a WWII receiver. I left the rifle with them to do the NM upgrade (bed the action and few other things). If you have time, go shoot your rifle at the CMP Marksmanship Park. One of the nicest gun ranges I've ever seen. It was free for us in 2018, don't know how that works now.

Again, my saga was a bit different, but I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Bremen, GA. Nice place, good southern breakfast included in the room rate.
IIRC, there were Hilton properties near Anniston, but as I said they were booked solid due to Talladega.

Just got back from the class. Experience of a lifetime. Glad I was able to go. For those of you wanting to buy a garand, don’t wait. CMP is running out and planning on their own brand of aftermarket garands starting next year. The classes next year will have the new manufactured type. Check out their Facebook page.
