At my fastest I raced local GPs, motocross and desert stuff at the front of the intermediate class. Earned an expert plate and never raced with it, my body and equipment were battered so I pulled away and just kept riding for fun. Added mountain biking to the mix, it got me healed up and pretty fit. I still ride and race, but I haven’t chased series points for 30 years.

Never approached pro speed, but had the chance to ride with several. They just see things differently..

What discipline did you race?

Even liberals drive cars — or at least a lot of them do. It’s the only reason they haven’t tried banning cars yet, despite the extremely large number of people killed in car crashes every year.

I'm not against firearm branded clothes, I might wear an HK hat, but I wouldn't wear something with a big design that screamed "I love guns!" with an AR on it. Which is largely what I find 2A/gun culture merch to be like. Mostly because I like to dress more conservatively, but now that I'm thinking about it maybe guns are part of it.
They are useful tools, fun, and a necessary part of a free society, but they are still weapons and therefore belong in their own mental space and time. It would feel a bit tacky and vulgar to put on a big display of them in everyday public life. It's like gratuitous displays of sexuality or wealth (like an HK hat). Those are necessary and fun things in their proper places, but they can distract from other, higher purposes.

That aside, I get that the main point was about people being "in the closet" about guns. I'm not and I would encourage others not to be. Most people either don't care or approve, and the rest are not worth basing your behavior on, outside of common sense caution.
It reminds me of a friend ~8 years ago who bought a maga hat trying to be edgy and thinking he would get hate in public, and ended up just getting a bunch of compliments (in Santa Monica).

Supersport bikes are what I raced seriously but I’ve also raced Supermoto and flat track

I keep the house and cars clear of any sign of firearms involvement.

I have a nephew who graduated from an East S.F. Bay High School a few years ago. One of his classes held a debate on pros and cons of firearms ownership, and he took a "pro" perspective. Afterwards his chief opponent in the debate falsely accused my nephew of threatening him with gun violence.

The school administration then put significant pressure on my Nephew to confess to the false accusations. To his credit my Nephew stood his ground and no negative consequences came from it.

I relate this story because I have a fair collection of firearms related shirts. My concern is that by advertising myself as a "pro gun", maybe some anti would call the police to falsely claim I brandished a firearm. Since I have my CCW, such a false claim would be uncomfortably complicated.

Is this a stretch of the imagination? I tend to think it a credible concern here in the Bay area.

A majority of gun owners don’t conceal carry.

Your CCW and your clothing don’t really have anything to do with the other as long as your clothes cover up the gun

It’s a free country. But when I see a gun shirt the first thing I look for is the gun he’s so proud of owning. If I don’t see it, maybe he’s just a nerd. If I do see it, he’s a clown. If we’re standing in the post office together he’s a total clown whose hubris pairs poorly with the responsibility he carries.

I think you’re giving people the benefit of being responsible. Have you taken a CCW class? I'm a certified ccw instructor and decided not to teach because I felt more threatened by the students, bless their souls, than i did outside. Its not their fault but it also is.

The reality is needing to shoot is extremely rare, but becoming more probabilistic. The whole point of ccw is not to give it away, the first c in ccw. There's A LOT of people who think they're concealing who don't do it well.
