Consensus on gun apparel

I’m sure I got some strange looks when I showed up at the range with my very long hair and wearing flip flops, cargo shorts, and a tie dyed Grateful Dead T shirt.

I think you’re giving people the benefit of being responsible. Have you taken a CCW class? I'm a certified ccw instructor and decided not to teach because I felt more threatened by the students, bless their souls, than i did outside. Its not their fault but it also is.

The reality is needing to shoot is extremely rare, but becoming more probabilistic. The whole point of ccw is not to give it away, the first c in ccw. There's A LOT of people who think they're concealing who don't do it well.

Well of course I had to take the class, it’s mandated by law here.

I made a post about my class because of how unique the experience was. It was actually pretty fun. We had one woman who was shy with the gun and couldn’t clear a malfunction in her Glock. But other than that everyone was solid.

I’ve seen the horror stories on here and Reddit though. The general public is scary. I have so many similar stories with people wanting to learn to ride in the CHP CMSP class I teach.

My last qualification the dude next to me kept flagging me with a loaded M&P Shield with tasteful neon green accents, and I was also getting hit in the side of the head with his ejecting brass, and someone else was using reloads that every mag a case would get stuck in the chamber after firing and the instructor would have to send a rod down the barrel and hammer it out of the gun.

After the third time getting flagged the instructor told him if it happens again hes gone, then he did it again lol

I just let the instructor handle it because I am lazy and don't have a strong desire to argue with old Asian men holding a loaded pistol lol.
The instructor actually kicked him out after he did it again which was great.

My first CCW class had a dude ask how hes supposed to do the live fire for his shotgun that he wants on his permit, since it only holds 4+1 and the test is 7 rounds. When asked how he expects to CCW a shotgun in the first place he didn't have a response. He left before the shooting portion lol

It really isn't their fault, even though it is. CCW courses are the most dangerous ones I've seen. I used to see a lot of them, then I said F- it. There are too many amatuers who think they know how to operate a gun because they BUY firearms. This is one of the reasons for ca2a in the course section, I plan on doing videos as primers for people.

People just don't prioritize handling, the only time they touch is it, is when they bought it and for the class. What we do at the range, is another class of shooter, like getting them ready for road bike racing vs just getting your license. But we can bring the techniques down, and offer it for free via video learning.

My goal is to get people to watch the videos prior to taking a class because experiences like @CadeH is very common. That's why static line ranges are the worst. Don't get me wrong though, I see a lot of ND's and other handling mistakes by regular people and 180'd myself in a match. It happens, just gotta minimize it. CCW people though man, you can def tell who got it to be cool vs people who got it for work by what they wear.

Funny the parallels between gun and motorcycle ownership. Many riders don’t even have their M1, or the CMSP basic class to get their license is the only training they ever do. Many don’t do the follow on trainings to improve or maintain skills

It’s hard to believe that’s real but I believe you. And it’s scary. I think the scariest part of freedom is that all of those people get the same freedom we do.

Idk if it’s my location, luck or the instructor I had but I had a pretty high speed class minus the old lady. I’m wondering what the next will be like

Not so much anymore but when I was 18 and didn’t care about dressing nice in the military I had a bunch of grunt style or edgy or gun/2A type of shirts and other moto military whatever.

Now that I’m an old boomer I have to dress up more often and it’s not a lot of graphic t shirts these days.

I noticed with the online crowd some people are extremely nervous about supporting the hobby publicly or wearing gun apparel or clothing. California is definitely a bit different, because in other states I lived in definitely nobody will care or judge you badly.

I used to live in the Bay Area and work at Twitter HQ so I get ‘being around the hostile to gun culture left wing type of people’.

Stickers on your car or truck are one thing because I could see the argument that criminals might be more likely to break in thinking you’ll have a goodie inside.

But what’s the fear factor about wearing a HK hat or t shirt etc? That isn’t making sense to me. If the idea is that a criminal will target you because you have a Walther polo or a CAguns t-shirt, that sounds so far fetched from a statistical standpoint it’s almost purely fantasy.

To test this theory today I wore this oversized polo 14 hours today doing investigations in the field.

Regrettably, I have survived. (Sorry Ikeo)

The bigger sin was carrying a HK at the same time.

The only shirts I wear that even imply guns are from black rifle division and they’re more niche schizo type shirts, that being said I def cringe when I see dudes with over the top grunt style, 9 line, or F- your feelings liberal type shirts cause they’re always overweight and I immediately scan if they’re printing at all which they never are cause they probably don’t carry. It’s just weak posturing imo. Same goes for stickers on vehicles, your PSA and Keltec sticker aren’t a flex on your pavement princess tacoma.

That all said I did wear a wolf ammunition t-shirt to a concert in SF and had one guy come up to me and laugh cause it’s not something you see often

Which sucks, because motorcycle insurance is $$$.

I got my first motorcycle license in Japan, where I had to work my way up through 250cc, 400cc, and eventually unlimited. I started with moto gymkhana, then moved into amateur track days. Gymkhana was especially useful in Japan because of the tight, narrow roads.

When I came back Stateside, I took the CMSP class. Compared to what I was used to, it was pretty boring. Slaloms, tight turns, basic low speed stuff.
