Curious how everyone here designed their collection.

Mostly I just acquire whatever comes my way. Sometimes I get a hankering for something but it may be 10 years before I get it.sometimes it’s 10 days before it presents itself to me. I had been wanting a citori for over 13 years before mine found me, my M1 carbine only took 9 years. My Krag carbine only took 2 weeks to find me once I realized I really wanted an original. My K31 took 20 years and my POF AR10 found me without even wanting another AR10 at all.

Im very much the same way. I will wait for the deal to present itself on something that fits my taste and I really want. I have gone out of my way on only a couple of guns but mostly all have been very good deals that have come my way. I wouldnt say im done buying but i have more than enough at this point and dont see myself buying anytime soon. If I buy it will be ammo or targets.

I felt the same way once ….. but then my blood pressure medication gave me insomnia ….. and then I found the cure for my insomnia ……


I have since filled all my safes and the doors barely close now and I have another safe in transit, should have it by Father’s Day. Already wondering where the next safe is going to go…. I have ideas!

After seeing how people acted towards each other during COVID, I figured we would need a bit of home protection. I researched a lot about gun safety but not actually about guns. I had shot an M9 Beretta briefly during bootcamp but that was pretty much it for pistols. I went to the LGS and I think I was probably going to end up with a Glock19 but Springfield Armory had a gear up pac as they seem to always do and I got the XD-9. I know a lot of people hate all the extra safety measures but as a newbie, having a trigger safety and a grip safety made my wife and I feel more comfortable. Started shooting more and realized this is getting kind of expensive and looked into getting a 22 to practice with and for the wife. Got a P22 and tons of ammo but the cheapo P22 only comes with 1 mag. Realized this thing loves to jam so now I'm in between selling it or buying another mag to be a range toy.

After a hiatus, I tested out some EDCs and liked the P365 xMacro and Hellcat Pro. Got an excellent deal on the gear up pac again lol. Springfield has a chokehold on me via overall value.
 
Started out collecting guns, whatever tickled my fancy. Then decided that the collecting was out of hand . Sold everything except the essentials . My collection is now in fudd territory and practical . Now I collect ammo.

XD9 is a solid first pistol. Mine has been flawless.
 
Even tho I accumulate all kinds of stuff, nothing I own is part of any kind of collection. It was pretty much all randomly acquired.

you have hit the expensive part of the hobby. Feeding them all.
 
Starting out wanting something for home defense and any purchases after the first would be practical for my wife and I before I get to the cool unnecessary purchases. Went shooting for the first time as an adult with my wife and sister in 2013. Shot a Glock 17 and liked it, plus I wanted something reliable and affordable. Friend at LGS sold me on .40 and after being told over and over that the M&P .40 was on back order, I ended up picking up a Glock 23 from another shop I randomly walked into. The M&P never showed up so I ended up using the deposit toward an M&P 9c for my wife. After that, bought 2 lowers and turned one into my wife’s AR and the other into mine. Sold the 9c and got my wife an Glock 26 because she didn’t care for the 9c trigger and a few other things. After that was gifted a 30-40 Krag and an old Ithaca Model 37 from my grandparents. Ended up thinking I wanted a Glock 17 bad still so sold the 23 and bought a 17, but I didn’t like it nearly as much as I loved the 23. Traded the 17 for a 1911 which I really did like, but loved the history or 1911’s more than I did having it as my main handgun. Traded the 1911 earlier this week for a Shield that I pick up next week to start my CCW process.

I will absolutely buy another RIA 1911 at some point, but have a few other guns I would like to get first, like a bolt action .308, another Glock 23, a few more to add to my CCW list and a few 22lr’s for the kids.
