Afternoon,

So I had done a PPT, this past week. I arrived with the necessary paperwork at my LGS then realized I when I got my Real driver's license they used my middle name, but on my CAC(military ID) it's not there because I didn't want to use it when I enlisted. I asked if I'd get denied for that I was told it shouldn't be, I asked if I was, could get my wife to dros it they said no. The seller was right there and said if you don't get approved then you(me) lose my dros and the money given to the seller and he keeps his gun. I did the ppt anyways knowing I should have no issue as I have purchased firearms before. I'm hoping the seller was joking because money is money, and I would hope he would give back my money if I got denied. Have anyone experienced anything like this and what would you have done?

I hope my stuff goes through without hiccup. I'll definitely be sure to know who I'm dealing with next time i want to buy something that requires a FFL

I doubt you would get denied by the CA DOJ based on what your documents say because your documents do not get submitted to DROS. Only text the dealer enters. 2) The seller can set whatever conditions on the sale they want. It is up to you to agree to them or not. I actually would not blame a seller for telling a buyer that any denied DROS would not incur a refund and the gun by law goes back to the seller. If I sell a gun to someone and they get denied, I might have already spent that money and I have zero desire to refund it. Make sure you can pass a background check otherwise the gun is returned to the seller and that is the law. I mean if you other sellers want to have a return fee, I respect that. I also respect someone who plays hardball. Make sure your affairs are in order.


This sounds like your gun store screwed you. I hope you received a 100% refund for them being stupid. They could have just as easily accepted everything and buried it in their paperwork and if the CA DOJ does not audit them in 3 years, they shred everything and no one cares. This is a lesson to find a good gun dealer that works for you, not the state. And if they are going to screw up, the eat the cost on everything and re-DROS or 100% refund.

Yeah i got a 100% refund, ill out them, it was Turners, west covina.
The initial guy that filled out my 4473 took all my documents, filled out the paperwork, handed it off to the "second eyes" and got approval, started the 10 day wait, and on the 10th day I show up and a different worker begins to go through the motions to release my firearm from their system when he sees that one document has a middle name and another does not, both have the same current address. Long story short the manager denied pickup and told me id have to get an ID that matched my birth certificate exactly. I called them out for the initial two workers not catching something that they should have noticed and got my money back, never went back.

Exactly! DOJ cleared it for that incident but Turners covina (the manager) completely denied the dros/pickup. I was livid.

Was Turners your idea or the sellers?
I won't deal with any seller insiting on turners. They're notorious for messing up DROS. They also will NOT deliver on undetermined. I knew people who didn't get denied, but got the 30 day blues, and had to re DROS. One did it 4 times. It would suck for Turners to screw you then the seller to add insult to injury by keeping both money and gun.
That said ALL my documentation matches exactly.

It was the seller's idea, I didn't nothing of it. But was told later on that he actually worked there. Ahhh man, I really hope this not the case now that you brought it up. I'm hoping it will be all good come Thursday when I go there, RealiD/Federal limits is a Fn joke.

At least you know where to find him if you need to pesture for your money back. It also kinda reduces the whole "time and effort fee" part of it in my opinion.
Future reference always iron out what happens if DROS goes wrong, and NEVER use Turdners for PPT.

Thabks for the heads up for future purchases. Yea well I'm hoping it doesn't have to go that route. This is the first I ever had an issue with a PPT, all because I had gotten a RealID. All should be good if not then I'll keep yall posted. I'll even offer to give him 20% of the purchase price for his time if he gave me my money in the event i dont get approved.

If you DROSed the 27th, then you are likely good. A DMV reject or delay would have likely happened by now. When you go in to pick up, don't say anything to them about any of this. Offer no additional information. Sign for the gun and get out of there. If they ever call you later on telling you that there was an error and they need the gun back, tell them no thanks and that they can correct anything they need to with the DOJ directly and you will not be returning. Wish them a good day.

Once again, as of now, you haven’t “had an issue” with this PPT. At this point, everything is fine. Frankly, if there was a name miss-match which would kill the deal, it should have happened by now. At any rate, there is nothing you can do but relax and wait, so stop anguishing over this and chill.

You have to get your names correct on various supporting documents. Also, don't deal with Turner's. I had an issue with a "Jr." in my name that I no longer use. It was on some documents but not others. I omitted it from my Passport, which thankfully I could use to get a REAL ID from the DMV to match. However, there was one PPT that was derailed by this initially, so I had to go get a fishing license from Big 5 to match before we could proceed. Caused me some angina.

You will want to get that REAL ID ASAP with your desired name. Good luck!

For as many times as I’ve used multiple Turner’s locations for PPT (buyer and seller) over the last 18 years, I can say I’ve never had a problem. Either they’ve really gone downhill recently or I’m one of the exceptions.

OP, glad all your worry was for not.
