There has always been discussion about the possibility of a Yugo 59/66 not being illegal with a detachable magazine because it isn't named as an SKS much like a non-Colt isn't an AR15. I'm unsure if I'd go that route or not without more legal reading but it was always a topic of discussion.

Unless one is at Gene Hoffman level of wealth, the cost to defend the criminal charge - with some likelihood of being convicted - seems to me to close off that idea.
