I think it comes with the territory when selling anything. I think the worst is selling cars privately. Such a headache but that makes places like Car Max a viable option . It's all what you can tolerate at the end of the day

I grew up where haggling and "wheeling and dealing" were a way of life. I sell a lot of things online and I don't mind a little back and forth with a prospective customer if they are polite and respectful. If you're offering me less than 50% of my listed price I'll let you know (in the kindest way possible) that you can go rapidly fornicate with yourself. And I'll never respond directly to the question: "what's the lowest you'll take?" I'm not bidding against myself.

Conversely, if there's something I want, I have no problem tendering a respectful offer. Especially if the item has been sitting awhile, or doesn't seem to be garnering much interest. Ie: the day before an ad on here is set to expire. But I'll add that I'm pretty much "just shooting my shot" and if they won't accept my offer, no harm: we can keep talking.

The key takeaway, I feel, is that respectful offer. I try to ask myself how I'd feel about my offer, if the rules are reversed. So, if I were making an offer on a Hi-Point, I might offer a box of ammo less than asking price. If I were making an offer on a $3k+ 2011, I might offer a Hi-Point less than asking price.

I clear all the other issues out of the way, location, time and that kind of stuff.
I have to admit, may times I miss the right point to throw in an offer discounting the asking price.
I guess, I am the kind of buyer sellers can only dream of.

Even then, "firm" might become "a little flaccid" if it's been sitting for a hot minute with little to no interest. That's at the sellers discretion.

Market place for pre-owned guns is saturated. I get it.
I don't have over-priced asking prices. My guns are clean, sometimes even new.

I am amazed about the high percentage of folks who send messages expressing their interest.
Yet in the first question I get to read, they are asking for for a discount.
To be clear, that's not even an offer.
Somebody tell me. Is this normal?

If I'm selling something and someone makes an offer within 10% of my original asking price I'll take them seriously. If I'm selling for $1000 and they offer $920, yeah, I'll close the deal on that if I'm not in a haggling mood. Start high, and test where the market actually is. You'll find out fairly quickly where the market is. You can also see how someone else's ad has been up, and engage with them based on that.

the last two years used market was pretty soft in Tx. I ended up trading a bunch. hell friend group had a 5 way trade between, tools, guns, and an optic but it worked out for everyone.

I have a few more hoops to jump through before I start buying / selling out here. So i’m going to have to relearn the market.
