My issue with that is that once you go the spreadsheet route, one must remember where they are all stored, so that you can make the inventory spreadsheet to begin with. The other concept we must define is the term “many”; firearms owning enthusiasts may consider a small collection of twenty-five pieces as “not many”, whereas democrat politicians, academics, MSM floaters, etc. may consider that as “many” and a “huge arsenal”. Lastly, let us not discount the huge volume of accessories, ammunition, spare parts, incomplete firearms, maintenance items, safes, safe rooms, etc. that rides along with all that, and it can become overwhelming. In a good way hopefully.

That’s a neat aspect of being a gun enthusiast. There are so many paths one can take as they aquire examples that the possibilities are endless. For example, I may not have much interest in collecting old European drillings, but I never pass up the opportunity to examine one given the chance. Likewise, my collection of “Ring of Fire” guns from the various So Cal makers in the 60’s-80’s aren’t high dollar items on the auctions, but sharing those at the club has been enjoyable still.

I know approximately how many I have but would have to go to my spreadsheet to be exact. I also use a spreadsheet to track ammo and reloading components (except used brass) so I know if I’m running low on anything. I also track the location to make it easier to find.

To make tracking ammo easier, I keep about 3-4k in a ‘shoot me first’ pile that I don’t track on the spreadsheet. This is what I pull from before heading to the range or hunting trip. If I’m running low or don’t have enough, I’ll pull from inventory and adjust it accordingly. This helps reduce the number of edits I have to make. I guess this is akin to when I worked in manufacturing- we always had parts out on the floor to use first but when we ran low, we had to requisition more from the stockroom. Anyway, it works for me.

308 bolt gun was too punishing? I guess thats the reason you don't have a shotgun 12ga, which imo anyone should have for simple calibers.

6.5 creedmoor isn't a simple caliber compared to 308 imo.

The old answer was counting which caliber wasn't owned.
Then counting how much ammo on hand, buy, shoot, rinse repeat. Wow what an exercise in futility.
10mm is kinda like the socket, "they get lost" Buy another then you have three, It's the "new math"

I really don't know, a lot, I guess. Time to take an inventory and put ser.# down. At the same time put their value down. So as someone on Calguns stated, " I hope they don't sell them for what I said I bought them for."
There was also a tagline on Calguns that I really liked "My wife thinks I only have 3 guns." I like to play with that in my mind "My wife thinks I only have one safe." The reason I can get away with that is I have 3 at my shop 40 miles from home.

Yes, I have enough to make some Californians uncomfortable. What should make the anti 2A crowd even more uncomfortable is that based on a recent federal court ruling, nonresidents, like myself, will soon be carrying in CA.

Many years ago when I first got my FFL03, I was told that I had to log all my purchases, not just C&R purchases. It wasn't until years later that I found out that it wasn't actually the case, but I had already gotten into the habit of just logging everything.

I've since started tracking everything (including mags, parts, ammo, range trips, etc.) in Notion. Most importantly, I can keep track of the last time I shot them, cleaned them, zero'd the optics at what distance, etc. When you have north of 100 guns, keeping things organized and taking notes is critical.
