Does anyone hunt in CA anymore?

I got one recently but haven't shot it yet. Has a 3-15x Vortex scope and backup red dot canted. idk any laws or rules about hunting

You will need to use Lead Free ammo.

For big game; must be centerfire cartridge at least .22 caliber. So, smallest caliber allowed would be .223 remington, even though it's not recommended; but if so, it is recommended to keep it under 100 yards. Recommendations are keep it at least a .243 winchester.
For .308, seems like Barnes TTSX, Fort Scott TUI, Nosler E-Tip, and Hornady CX; are easier to find in stores.

If you're AR-10 has a light or laser; you will need to remove it before the hunt.

The CA DFG stopped issuing paper book versions of each years regulations; some years ago. It's all online now. In the past, you could just go to a big 5 sporting goods, and pick up the most recent Hunting or Angling regulations. If you can; take a look on CA DFG's website. It's a good read.

Also D11. I saw a big black bear last year while doing off season deer scouting. Don't ask me how I know but that thing can run fast for its size.

Keep a bear tag with you next time? It would be nice to harvest a black bear.

Obviously some people hunt but I imagine it's less popular now with population growth. I don't know anyone in my networks into hunting, not even from military or firearms circles. My dad was a scout sniper but we never went hunting and he wasn't into it. Going out to fk up some deer then cut it up just doesn't sound super appealing. It would be different if it was the old days and you needed it to eat, then of course I'd hunt

I’ve also been advised before by an old timer to never take someone to spots you worked hard scouting for; your honey hole. If you do take someone hunting, take them somewhere where you’ve never been; as in a totally public land many miles or hours away from where you are usually at. Because what happens is usually those same people come back and blow the spot up; or they might even bring others with them too. You thought you did them a good solid deed so they can go elsewhere later and use those same skills; but they didn’t and just came back to the same place.

But, again, out of respect, this is nothing against you specifically. This was a walk in the wilderness lesson I was told before, by an old timer I happened to bump into, multiple times; who’s been hunting before I was born.

I’m originally from North Carolina, started hunting in the late 70’s. Moved to California in 1990 after joining the Military spent several years deployed but have hunted California every year since 1997. California has tons of public land available for hunting and lots of game, if you’re willing to put in the effort.

Yes you can but you have to make sure your mag is a 5 rounder, one of the guys that my oldest brother hunted deer with used to sport a Garand, it was a true M1D but with a 5 round clip when Deer hunting.

California does not restrict magazine capacity for rifles.
Shotguns must be limited to a maximum of three shells when hunting migratory birds.

People don't give up their public land hunting spots on online forums because they worked for those spots. No one does that.

Yeah I’ve been researching that, cost is high but would like the experience. But mostly I’ve been dealing with leg and back issues for the past three years so that’s the priority since I physically can’t do it right now.

It’s expensive in California, but most guides have side by sides to ride and the terrain for wild boar is pretty flat. You can pay less in Texas for boar but the weather is worst, the terrain is rougher and that just makes for a tough hunt. Try toning a friend that drops the price a little. If you have a friend with land is the best option.
