Do this look like pitting to you?

I carried this Max9 using a belly band in high temperatures, usually wore it about 12hrs at a time. At the end of my day, the gun and belly band were usually saturated with sweat. At first I thought the bumpy texture was just dead skin and gunk built up from a week of having the gun rub against my torso. But now that I finally cleaned it some 2 weeks later, the brown skin color is gone and now it just looks like pitting.

The whole reason I bought a Max9 was to have a budget gun that I don't care about getting dirty or blemished. But I'm also surprised that this happened so quickly, I really only carried it like this 6 days total. I like seeing visual defects on my guns but I thought this finish would hold up longer!

The brand new example of this pistol I bought had brown corrosion visible on the slide if you held it in the right lighting.
Brand new, still slick with factory oil sheen.
I figured it could eventually progress into something much worse. Ended up re-selling.
I have also heard secondhand of ruger taking care of this specific situation, if bad enough.

Call me silly but salt/sweat is highly corrosive, how is it you never wiped it down for two weeks with such usage?
Inexpensive pistol firearms are inexpensive for a reason. the final treatment of the metal is just a coat of nothing but color.
Basic Firearm's 101: Always clean after use even if not used.
A simple wipe down after every shift would have avoided it, hope this helps in the future.

In all seriousness;
It's obviously a great idea to keep an oily rag + bottle of CLP / oil (I Love Eezox & have never had anything rust on me. Ever.) + some foam swabs near where you store your EDC gear, so that you can swab / wipe everything down with a light coat of oil every few days or once a week or whatever. Especially any areas that come into direct contact with your body.

As I said; I've been using Eezox for decades & literally have never had anything rust on me, even guns that ride close to my skin (granted, they're usually Glocks, but still...)

Found a picture from the day I brought it home. You can see the brown corrosion at the serrations near the front. It was worse in person.
Brand new, straight out of the box from ruger. Seems like a common issue with this pistol, unfortunately.
