I soloed in '68 while a junior in HS. The community college, Ohlone JC, had a commercial pilot certificate program that I was in during my last 2 years of HS. But guys were coming back from Nam just a couple years older than me with thousands of hours and I got discouraged after10 hours. Then in '76 I got a job in Tracy with Carl Trinkle at Midway Dusters which, lead to work at his dads operation, Trinkle & Boys. Another son, John, had just been discharged from the Army and needed his private to get the GI bill to pay for his commercial, so he and I went in on a '56 PA22-160 in December and I had my private ticket by March.
After 10 years , 1000 hours, a 182E and a Rallye Minerva I never did get my commercial.

Thats kind of a similar story to what my next door neighbor went through. He owned half of a 182 through the 90s - the plane is currently owned by someone that has it at KMYF, think. He flies gliders out in Elsinore now and he loves it.

I'm working on changing careers to fly commercial, just working thru the steps in order.

Good luck, keep after it...there's a need for pilots. The kid I worked with at Jensen Aviation the last 2 seasons just got his ticket last week from an ag school in Texas, another buddy is going on his 4 year as PIC at a flight school in San Diego. Corporate twins, King Air I think. PAX
