Down DOJ System

Just tried to pick up a firearm, and the FFL I used also said the DOJ system was down.

I contacted my FFL this morning and he is saying it is still down, it is weird though because from what I know other FFL's are not having this problem. People here are saying it's that they possibly did not renew their COE's.

It's the time of year when all dealers have to renew their CFD, COE, magazine permit, ammo sales permit and FFL's if they started their business at the beginning of a calendar year.
This is the time of year that DOJ is probably busy updating all those permits and gets behind.
An FFL that I work for is also having problems getting his DES turned back on and he has all his permits in order and has submitted them all in a timely manner and DES still can't do their job.

Does anyone know or if the DOJ system has been down for the last 2 days? I showed up to my local gun shop yesterday to pick up my new gun and was told that he couldn't release it due to the DOJ system being down.

Today I went again and he said that the system was still down and he still couldn't release the firearm.

Has anyone else experienced this in the last 2 days? Not sure how to move forward.

Yes, they said the lady who works for DOJ is on vacation. So it cannot be fixed at this time. But tomorrow (saturday), per TheGunRange staff, he said she will have it fixed.. but they also said call in first to confirm.

Not much you can do. I once got a delay from the CA DOJ because NICS was down. I was fortunate enough to get ahold of someone on the phone after my LGS informed me about the delay. The person I spoke with looked into it, discovered what had happened, reran the background check, and approved me while I waited on the phone. Otherwise, it might have taken 30 days before they even tried running it again.

We exercise our rights at the mercy of the state’s technology and the people who use it. Ask the gun shop to give you a call when they’re finally able to release your gun.

Same. Was due for an ammo pick up since Monday and was told the same thing, that the DROS system was down with no ETA.

You can verify that the site is down by visiting yourself, or try a site like https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/des.doj.ca.gov
.... says it's still down

Even though that site says it's down, I can access des.doj.ca.gov/login and I can login just fine.
Anyone should be able to go to des.doj.ca.gov/login and see the login screen even if they don't have a login.

The gun range of watt avenue in citrus heights in norcal has been down for a week+. They keep updating their instagram page saying that the system is down and they are unable to run background and ammo checks for anyone. Super sucky and they are the more well known lgs in the area and everyone uses their range..

I’m having the same problem. I have been to several LGS in the past week and they all have the same issue. They have submitted their paperwork in a timely manner and confirmed receipt along with their payment, but the single person at the DOJ who handles these renewals has a backlog. I don’t know if this person went on vacation.

All 3 stores told me the same story. But are unrelated to one another. In LA County.

One of the LGS has been down for 3 days now, haven't seen or heard about any issues elsewhere

It’s typically because the CFD owner missed renewing a license or COE and it shuts down the DES system. It’s typically their COE, FFL, CFD, or Business license. Once the get it all renewed they will be go to go!

It's not the system.
They are locked out of the DES system because their permits/licenses are not in order with DES.
They are saying "the system is down" because they dont want to tell the actual truth which is that their papers are not in order.

The system is up just fine which is why other shops can DROS and release.

The only time this happened to me was at The Gun Range, dude behind the counter was just being lazy and didn't want to process a PPT. He was all smiles to make a sale, but as soon as he found out we were PPT, he stopped and was like, "Uh yeah, system just went down.". But wasn't on the computer at the time to check, lol.

Called the Glock Store (before they left CA) who was down the street at that time and asked them if their DOJ was up. They said its the same system for everyone and that was BS by the store and to come on over. Well I did and they took care of me/us. Ended up spending close to $1000 at the Glock Store after PPT complete and continued to do business with them until they closed their doors here in California.

Still a problem for me at one FFL I have a revolver at. The stated reason from them is that there's exactly one person at the DOJ who processes renewals and they have a backlog they're currently working through with no ETA.

Same here. Been waiting on a pick up since Feb 2nd. Getting kind of ridiculous.

pickd up something at Burbank on the 2nd. They didn't have any problems.
