We've also had more on the case side, which is also something we'll be addressing soon. I have a feature coming in the next month or two that I think people will really like but that's TBD. We try to have a balance here for all different kinds of people. So everyone mostly has a way to do something.

ikeo1, What do you mean by "over pricing their Glocks?" Should there be some sort of "price control police?" Is that what these emojis are supposed to do? I have two Glocks in an ad right now. They are newish and low round count. They have some upgrades that make them really nice shooters. I do have them priced with a small premium. I'm sure I could not go out and buy Glocks right now for less than I am asking. I checked a few of the $2,000 off roster guns that cost $500 in Free America. Those get less emojis than a Gen 3 priced slightly above what retail was a few weeks ago, WHY?

All that said I think these Emojis are thread crapping as currently being used. If I don't like the price on something I don't buy it. Should I make note of the Emoji posters and stalk them until I can crap on them?

Thread crapping is a different level. If we allowed thread crapping you would definitely recognize the difference in not a good way. This isn’t a store people pay for so the overhead we have to deal with is a lot. If we were price policing you would also know it. We let things regulate themselves with guidelines and is community supported so we give the people options.

I have a feature on the way as a paid option because I’m paying to develop it so that people have an option to opt out.

If you have a small premium people usually won’t give you a hard time but if you’re 2-3x the price that’s usually where people leave emojis.

If people abuse it, report it. If it’s credible then we’ll remove all their emoji reactions, give a warning, and potentially lock them out of classifieds altogether.

We’re bringing back common sense hopefully. The poll is closer to 75/25 now so our thing is to mainly listen to the community and act as a tiebreak when needed. Occasionally, people won’t like what we decide but I’m hopeful people understand we’re doing the best to balance things for everyone which requires a little understanding and compromise.

I don't like high prices anymore than the next guy. Let the market decide what something is worth. Supply and demand is real. That's capitalism baby.

Being able to opt-out of emoji "feedback" is a good idea, but it should be free to the user.

Passive-aggressive and negative emojis are still a form of thread crapping, just to a different degree. In a way it's worse than actual words because the objection is not made clear, and there's no good way to address the unstated objection. The seller could address it anyway at the risk of coming off neurotic or unhinged.

We don't do this in real life, even if some constructive criticism with words would be useful for some gun shops or any retailer...or anyone.

Even with real human interaction, words are usually better than trying to signal discontent with facial expressions, even though people are sometimes "offended" by constructive criticism. A "dirty look" can still trigger fights IRL. For some, they're far more "triggering" than a simple direct comment in a neutral or friendly "tone".

There are many ways to deliver criticism in a gentle way that makes the objection clear, like the words we're using to object to emoji thread-crapping on this site.

I disagree. Paid users can lock questions and comments. This is an extension. Unfortunately only ~1-2% of members are contributing. So if they’d like extra features that we need to pay to build, they should share in the cost to develop the feature. These things aren’t cheap. A lot of things we’ll do silently but somethings like this were more upfront about because it’s controversial.

The next one I was thinking about doing a fundraiser for but decided against it and will front the development costs like I’ve always done with the help of supporters. Everything is subsidized by supporters here and it’s important that people contribute for features they ask for.

It goes both ways. They should have the option not to but it’s a paid option not by default. When they choose not to, it helps the site operate for everyone else including free accounts. Seems like a reasonable trade off IMO. Plus you’ll know because the emoji with say locked or something like that.

I've sold some guns through Calguns before but never bought one. Distance, overpricing, not shipping and other issues made it a PITA.

I have bought used guns in stores where I can handle it first. Convenience overcomes price sometimes.
