FFL near Atascadero for PPT

Anyone know a solid place near/in Atascadero? A friend has a couple handguns that he wants to sell. I'm in San Diego, so it involves 2 trips. The FFL he knows wants $47.19 plus $40 per handgun for a PPT. We are hoping to do it on Black Friday. This pricing seems (ahem) just a little bit high. Handguns are off roster.

I do have personal experience with Four Seasons Outfitters in San Luis Obispo; they helped me do an out of state transfer.

Low key, knowledgeable. No website.

I have no reservations in recommending the Outdoorsman in Arroyo Grande. I’ve found them knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve done several transfers there including off roster etc. It’s not as close to Atascadero but a little closer to San Diego.

I know PPT's aren't a big money maker. I always look around for stuff during the process to sweeten the deal a bit.
I think that overcharging by $117.91 is a bit much. I'll try to make sure the FFL understands this is a PPT, and not a dealer transfer. I don't know if my friend up there understands the difference, and explained it clearly when he called them.

Uncle Eds is strictly by the book and they wont take a chance if they dont understand what you are trying to accomplish. I use them for some things but not others. I was buying a C&R gun and they wouldnt accept the transfer because it was coming from out of state.

I've seen FFL's that sell stripped lowers refuse to PPT an assembled lower, that doesn't have an upper with it. The logic was "they don't know how it will be assembled with any upper" which is not logically aligned with their selling of stripped lowers. Of course, we've all experienced or heard of FFL's that refuse or discourage PPT's too.

They had some issues a few years ago with the DOJ so I think now they are just being overly cautious

PPT fees are capped by the DOJ. He must be confusing your request with a dealer transfer.

I just called them, and made sure he understood it's a PPT. He put me on hold for an extended time, then asked if I was still there.. H said "$47.19, call it $50, plus $40 administrative fee, and $10 for the second gun." He said "they don't get any of the $47.19" which isn't quite true, although I know $10 isn't great. Since I have to make a second trip up there, and no more 30 day wait requirement, I'd be inclined to do some shopping.
I might still have to do business there since they are near my friend, who can't drive due to injury right now. I'll out them by private message, but want to wait and see if I can convince them to do the right thing if I have to use them.

Or I guess you could phrase it nicer: "How much ammo would I need to buy for you to consider waiving the $40 admin fee on the DROS?" Then you gotta do the math if the ammo spend + sin tax outweighs just paying the guy $40 lol. Stupid state

Agree. This sort of thing is a struggle for me. I feel like I'm getting hosed by the state and by the FFL. In my little business, I help people all the time over the phone, some have never spent a penny with me. I don't want FFL's to close, but they can be frustrating. Sometimes it seems they are short sighted. (without even considering the times they give out bad info) Getting people into the store is normally a good thing, and $10 for the second gun is a better deal than $10 for the first gun.
As you say, I'd buy freedom seeds or something.
