Personal Experience:
Used them in all weather circumstances and have been very impressed by them. In the summer, with thin socks it will keep you foot pretty cool with the weather in the 100s here in Cali. In the fall and spring with the rain coming down, your foot will be dry cause these boots are well designed and are waterproof ran through puddles and deep pot holes to see if my foot got wet... absolutely nothing. In the winter, since they are uninsulated you will need to wear a thick insulated sock to keep your feet warm. I've been in them below 20°F in the snow without any issues but haven't trekked a like 5 miles in the snow with them to notice a difference.

Gl finding the right one. Always helps to go in the store and try different brands and see what fits best for your needs and what you are going to do with them...

Danner Pronghorn

Under armor Charged Raider - IME, not as good against waterproofing even though they list it as having a waterproof layer/membrane. I feel a little moist feeling when walking through puddles or creeks, even though water didn’t get high enough to channel into boots. I mainly wear this for summer A-zone use but have also walked in muddy conditions (day after rain) with no problems.

Work boots:

Danner Steel Toe Yard - 6 inch - Non insulated - Water Proof -Steel Toe - Definitely needs a good break in. Hard to run down the block or blocks because of the weight. Toes sometimes feel sweaty even on cold days at work; could be the steel toes and also the Danner Dry water proof layer in between the leather. Under long term use of kicking, the rim that sticks out in the front will start to split from the rubber.

Danner Viscious - 4.5 inch - Non Insulated Composite Toe with Meta-Tarsal Guard - Waterproof - Lighterweight, I am able to jog with it down the block or blocks. Good at kicking since it doesn’t have that rim that sticks out in the front. It doesn’t have anything to separate, however is composite toe, not steel toe.

Danner Crafter - 8 inch - Non Insulated - Steel Toe - Waterproof - Ok for running but the Viscious is better. Same sweaty toes situation as steel toe yards. Better at kicking since it doesn’t have that rim that sticks out in the front; doesn’t have anything to separate.

Long time Altra customer (Lone Peaks and Olympus). If the new models aren't working for your, check out Topo Athletic. I've worn a few of their models. Only thing I don't like about the Topos are the high(ish) arch. I always get used to it, but it bothers me at first.

Just bought a pair of Flux shoes, which feel more like Altras, but I don't think they sell a trail runner yet.

I just really liked the zero drop aspect of the Lone Peaks which Topo Athletic doesn't seem to offer but I'll try them out when it's time to shop around. I actually haven't tried Lone Peak 8's. It was the 7's that didn't work out for me.

Ya. I'd rather have zero drop too (which is why I bought a pair of Flux for work/ daily wear). Lone Peak is up to version 9. Colors are.... bold. I usually buy old stock, previous versions to save $$. Maybe I'll try the 8s once my Topo Mtr Racers wear out. That's one thing about the Topos, their soles seem to last much longer than Altras. Maybe just in my head.

If you want to try Topo, check out the Pursuit. Zero drop. I believe it's currently Hikingguy's favorite shoe.

I have a couple pairs of Altama Urban Assault low tops and mid tops for my casual wear. Got them for relatively cheap so I have some 5-6 pairs.

For work/semi-formal, I usually wear my Oxfords sneakers from Johnston & Murphy, Cole Hann and Allen Edmonds.

I wear my Altama everywhere from being out with the family, in the snow, and at the range. They are great!

For outdoor activities I wear Lowa Renegades or Nick's builder pro's depending on the activity.

I've gone backpacking in both.
