Gunsmith to work on my new Springfield 9mm 1911 Target

Just trying to understand these posts, 9mmcontagion says Shawn turns out "great work", ipsculver says "I was not impressed with Will's son-in-law"s work"
and then 9mmcontagion gives culver's post a thumbs up??

About 4 years ago, IIRC, I dropped off a Colt OACP with Will for a trigger job. When I picked it up Will said that his son-in-law had done the work.
It seemed to me that Will was happy with it, as am I. He turned a crappy factory trigger into a great one.

I “liked” ipsculver’s post in regards to him saying it’s sad to see Will retire. Always sad to lose an artist like that. I have seen quite a bit of Shawn’s work, and I’ve liked everything I’ve seen. Will would never let anything out of the shop that he didn’t approve of. If Shawn has Will’s approval, I am certain he can put out great products as well! If I had the funds and patience, I wouldn’t hesitate dropping off a pistol with Shawn

HAHAHAHAHA You obviously have no idea what my background is. You may want to do a Google search of my screenname to see my involvement in the "Gun World". Post count is deceiving on a new forum.
Im not lucky enough to live just down the street from Alans shop to just drop in, so a call is a must. If a simple call is annoying, then it isnt a shop I want to do business with. I have found plenty of competent gunsmiths to do work for me from a simple phone call.
I used to talk to John Jardine on the phone for hours many times before his passing and own a few of his builds. Les Pittman, Jason Burton and Ted Yost have no problem talking on the phone and will usually talk to you longer than you want to be on the call.

Remove metal to raise my grip under the trigger guard.
Provide a solid 4 lb trigger using Ed Brown tool steel lock work --> https://www.edbrown.com/product/5-piece-trigger-pull-kit/
Match the rear of the slide to the receiver, (Yuk SA, how could you leave it so mismatched?).
Slightly round dagger like corners of rear sight blade.
Be nice if the rough edges were smoothed up and the entire pistol blasted to a dull finish.

obviously lots of good advice in other posts here but have you considered (1) sending to SA for warranty on the slide/receiver mismatch and rough edges (2) the Springfield Custom Shop for your tuning work? They used do good work but I have no post-Covid era experience to quote.

There could be different reasons for this.
Perhaps philconrad might be a previous customer of Alan's and maybe you are not and Alan is simply not taking on new customers because his current customers keep him busy enough.
Or you annoy him by calling so often so he does not like you...

I do most of the work the OP is asking for except for the checkering but I don't advertise for 1911 work because I keep busy enough without it.
My customers know they can ask me to work on all sorts of things that I don't advertise for and I will take on work I am comfortable with.

This is true. I got Alan to do a trigger job for me about 10 years back because of family connection even though he only does full builds. He took his sweet time which was expected.

And Randall of AR15barrels can do it all. He is very well known for his amazing precision rifle work and chambered and built a .308 on a blueprinted Remington action and a 6.5 CM on a Defiance action for me. Best rifles in the world. Just amazing.

He’s built more ARs for me than i can count, some in weird calibers. He fixed my galled SS 1911, and also got a defective magazine removed from it that got stuck in there at the range. (I don’t use Wilson Combat 47d mags anymore). He put my carrier comp tube on my Benelli m4 even.

That reminds me i need a pinned AR rebarreled…. Damn i hope Randall’s not too busy…
