How is this California contrived program supposed to test every tire against every vehicle, with different pressure, different weight and different driving conditions? There is no easy way to know if it's going to work on my vehicle with my driving habits on the roads I take at the speeds I drive without actually testing them in that exact condition. The Michelin Energy Savers where tested and marketed as more fuel efficient over not LRR tires. And I'm pretty sure Michelin knows more about tires then California does.

If California says a particular tire is supposed to save me fuel and it doesn't, and doesn't let me purchase an alternative that would save me money, does California have a plan to refund the difference or create an exemption for me if their tire doesn't meet the requirements of this so called program? Unlikely.

The resistance rating is based on physics and the savings of mpg is like 1-2 mpg. if a set of tires lasts 50k and you get 26 mpg vs 25 mpg you would use 78 less gallons of fuel which at 5 a gallon is 398 dollars savings. if you paid double for the Michelins vs the other tires the savings would be a wash but I would bet they weren't double. I don't think they should have jumped to a ban on low efficiency tires from the jump, I would rather see a rating system and incentives for fuel saving tires first. But no one in this thread has data to refute the concept either. incidentally Michelin supported this bill, I don't know if that's good or bad. But I'm not ready to get upset about the bill until I see data that makes me upset.

Do they refund us if we could add mods to our vehicle to make it more efficient or cleaner, but can't because of CARB?

If I'm not mistaken, it was about $160 each for the Michelins and about $70 each for the replacements. They gave me GT tires instead as the ones I purchased couldn't be delivered in time. I think those where about 80 something dollars each.

As so very often happens people focus on the tool (in this case tires) and steadfastly ignore human behavior (maintaining tires at proper inflation).

I'm pretty sure proper tire inflation (or lack thereof) has a far greater influence over fuel economy then most anything else.

Fair enough but those are also objectively worse tires with a shorter warranty. Just the fact that they were designed to last for less time means they have less tread to begin with and could have had the same rolling resistance as the Michelin because it's tire weight is a big factor. Like I said I'm not saying this is definitely a good move by the state because there are a lot of factors but I also am not ready to say it's objectively bad either. Prices follow affordability and we would likely see the off brand makers like GT making cheaper versions of the premium Michelins

I might get a lot of flat tires whenever I leave California. I’m sure a lot of people will.

i do not understand how we came to a point to where we have terrorists as our officials and in our government, for that matter. activist judges and corrupt courts, and this agenda of the World Economic Forum, UN, and the World Bank's move to make a totalitarian society. we, the citizens, are allowing all this. all anybody does about it is just sit in front of a mic and talk about it nowadays. we need to rise up and stop allowing this
