Rose bushes. You absolutely need rose bushes. Plant at both ends and have several spots in the middle where they fill the space between the walls. One or two bushes will not do. You need at least four spots blocked by the rose bushes so that the homeless would need to push through to go down the path. Try to get the tallest ones you can find. For those who are reading this and wondering what I am talking about you must never have run into rose bush thorns. They hurt.

I wouldn't risk your dog. Something to keep your perimeter and not give them a reason to break or start hassling your property. They have 24/7 to come by your home to F- with it. You might not want to start an issue that you cant always be there to defend.

I would definitely put some No Trespassing/Beware of Dog signs to limit liability. In CA those homeless criminals can sue and win.

100% put a no trespassing sign. I've dealt with squatters and other BS in LA where they protect criminals and it's insane how they can't do without a no tresspassing sign on PRIVATE property... as if that wasn't obvious enough

Use the motion activated sprinkler systems that are designed to prevent wildlife/deer from eating young trees and shrubs. Get as many as you need to cover the wall or the path they walk. Some of them even oscillate to follow the motion. I used them when I lived in Colorado. Those mule deer could take out a young tree in about 15 minutes.

Any other solutions that you would want, like an inner perimeter of triple stacked razor wire, is just going to cost you your house.

On the downside of this idea, you might end up with a vagrant bath house in your backyard.

In addition to the thorny bushes dig a dry moat so after hopping the fence and bushes they fall into a pit with more thorny things at the bottom.

Over 20 years ago I lived in a different state in a nice home and had nice neighbors. There were no fences. My sprinkler system had broken so I was out watering using one of those connect onto the hoses sprinklers. I had moved the stroller to the side of the house and had it set way too strong as I was watching it. Rather than get wet, I backed up into one of neighbors bushes that I used to admire from my office window as it had georgeous large red flowers that bloomed in the spring. Much to my surprise my back felt sharp pain. The plant had two inch spikey thorns on it. Lots of good plants to choose that look good and yet as effective as barbed wire.

There was a homeless camp a couple miles away from me during pandemic. The neighborhood do gooder and friends went over there to do outreach. Afterwards he warned neighbors not to go near since the homeless had fortified some of the approaches to their camp with sharpened stakes in the ground smeared with feces, the punji stakes from Rambo!!
