How does one find a mosin?

I find the M91/30s to be a bit unwieldy but fun to shoot. My M38s and M44s are much more comfortable to shoulder but tend to let you know you shot them the next day. Still very fun guns though.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about. Most CA lgs's are disconnected from reality when it comes to the milsurp market. That's 2x what you could buy them for on the internet. If you're patient and fortunate then it's more than 2x.

Sportered national ordinance 03a3 for 600 is also very laughable.

Unpopular Opinion Disclaimer. Mosins are wildly overpriced, and of all the guns out there, if you don't have one, you absolutely without a doubt are not missing anything in the slightest. 7.62x54R is way more expensive than it used to be, as is all ammo. You might as well build a 308 AR. Or get yourself a Garand or build a retro AR if you want something historical.

I had a couple of Mosins back in the day when they were dirt cheap. One was a PU sniper. I shot 20 rounds through them and wondered what all the hype was about. Got rid of them and decided I'd rather spend more money on Garands and retro ARs than own a single Mosin. At one point, I thought about just hanging the damn thing over the fireplace as a joke.

Agree. I’m glad I got one for $85 at Big 5 years ago but would not spend 600 or CERTAINLY not 1k for one today. If you love milsurp and just want one for the history, and are young or came into the game late, I get it and you should go for it as they’ll only get more expensive, but for what you get it doesn’t seem worth more than a few hundred…

If you love milsurp and just want one for the history, and are young or came into the game late, I get it and you should go for it as they’ll only get more expensive, but for what you get it doesn’t seem worth more than a few hundred…

I had a couple I got for cheap, and even then, I didn't think they were worth owning, period, so I sold them. So I can't very well recommend anyone spend anything on a Mosin. I mean, they gotta be so cheap that it's an impulse buy. That's what they were when they were cheap. Nobody really wanted one, but for less than $100, sure, why not. Now it makes zero sense. Heck of all the foreign milsurps out there, I'd rather pick up an Arisaka. Even with impossible-to-find ammo, those things are crazy accurate.

It’s worth it to me for the historical significance. I did some research on mine and I believe it was used in the Spanish Civil War, and has some shrapnel embedded in the stock. That’s cool. I would spend $600 on that today if that’s what I wanted. I wish I’d bought an arisaka, Mauser, and Garand back in the day, but right now it’s not what I care about so I’m not planning on it. But I get why some people would want to.

Identifying SCW Mosins is usually pretty easy. Big giveaway if there's a "made in ussr" or "made in russia" stamp, that was an import requirement for guns coming out of Spain. #2 giveaway is whether or not it's been refurbished. Refurb mosins got new, dull finish on the metal. The wood was covered in shellac.

Well my other college-aged purchase was a hi point 9mm so I didn’t make ALL good decisions . It was pretty quickly replaced by a CZ75 though so I redeemed myself
