How does one order parts online these days?

Word is if you buy a gift card from a website and sometime after that, use said gift card. When using said gift card, the part is shipped to your BIL in another state. When BIL sends care packages back to a Non Free State, said item comes with.

HK USA said they're not shipping "anything that attaches to the gun." Other large firearms manufacturers seem to have similar policies. Large corporations tend to be pretty risk averse these days, too many lawyers; but to be fair, firearms manufacturers are probably under more scrutiny than the usually much smaller aftermarket firms.

I haven't had any trouble with the three or four vendors I've recently ordered from, but then I've only needed simple things like an optics plate recently.

I just purchased a Glock 19 OEM barrel that the Glockstore had on sale for $119. Sent it to my FFL On-Target Shooting Range which charges $10 for shipments from out of state.

I also had some out of state friends buy me some early birthday presents.
How much was shipping? I recall reading GS was charging a bundle, but maybe that's direct to consumer vs FFL?

What sucks is that the small companies won’t ship at all as they don’t have systems in place or attorneys to tell them what’s allowed. I just got a DWX compact and can’t find anyone who will ship mag baseplates (needed to use the cz75 compact mags) or ambi safety. Can’t get any parts from CGW or CZ Custom either. 😭

FFLs that wants to overcharge for gun parts being shipped and wants to take advantage is only good for 1 thing. PPTs.

Shooters Connection sells CGW parts and ships to CA.

if anyone knows, now that we have to send barrels to FFLs, whats the proper protocol for them being transferred the the customer after it shows up? my buddy has an FFL and were not sure what he has to do "legally." does it just ship the him then he hands it over to the customer? or are these things requiring background checks?
Before 7/1/2027, the FFL only need to check your identification to confirm identity and age and then they hand you the barrel.
After 7/1/2027, there will be some sort of background check, probably using a system just like how ammo is done.
I'm pretty sure that just like with ammunition, the FBI is not going to let CA state use NICS for parts.
So that leaves CA with having to use it's own system which is based on checking if you have previously legally acquired a firearm through a CA FFL.

Long live GAFS!

Also, a virtual mailbox in Montana is $10/month, and theres no sales tax, which mostly will pay for reshipping.
Isn’t the problem that sites won’t let you ship to an address that is different from the billing address? Do you set up a credit card with the Montana virtual address? If so, are you breaking any laws by doing so?

Those smaller companies not putting in a solution at this point is a cop out. 1911parts.com is now basically a reseller for EGW because 1911parts.com got their 💩 together and EGW can't wrap their head around a simple verification tool.

Does AB 1263 require sellers to report or record anything with CA? Let's say a seller participates and ships. What if anything do they do with the info? Is it simply a verification process that dies there or is there any post transaction reporting?
By sellers I assume you mean "Firearm Industry Members". Record yes, report no. If definitely doesn't "die there". Records must be retain similar to DROS records which are 3 years, although some legal experts are suggesting 10 year retention.

Record Retention for Retailers
Online and out-of-state retailers must keep "audit-ready" documentation for every order of a regulated accessory or barrel shipped to California. This includes:
  • Proof of Identity and Age: A copy or record of the government-issued photo ID (verifying the buyer is 18+) used for the sale.
  • Consumer Acknowledgment: The digital or written signed acknowledgment from the buyer confirming they received the state-mandated "California Manufacturing Notice".
  • Order-Matching Data: These records must be explicitly tied to the specific transaction or order number.
  • Address Verification: Documentation showing that the shipping address used exactly matches the address on the verified identification.

Submission to the CA DOJ
The requirement to actually send data to the DOJ depends on the specific item:
  • Accessories (Grips, Triggers, Stocks, etc.): Out-of-state retailers are not currently required to submit these sale records to the CA DOJ. They only need to retain them in case of a state audit.
  • Barrels (Under SB 704):
    • Current State: Out-of-state retailers cannot ship barrels directly to a consumer's home. They must ship them to a California-licensed FFL. The California FFL is the one responsible for the in-person transfer and recordkeeping.
    • Starting July 1, 2027: The California FFL receiving the barrel will be the one required to electronically submit the record of sale to the DOJ.
