How long is too long to store your firearm w/o any maintenance?

Can't imagine not shooting a gun that long. I don't have too many. But if I feel like something isn't for me, I sell. Some I've owned for less than a year and have sold.

I’ve got a few like that. Mostly stuff that was given to me as gifts or inheritance. Sitting for decades. Some unfired.

I am the first gun owner in my immediate family. So that is a foreign concept to me.

No, because many of them are duplicates or near-dupes.

For example: I have a several lever actions in various calibers. My dad had two, both Winchesters, one in 30-30 and one in 7-30 Roberts. He never fired either of them.

After he died in 2002, I got them. I never fired them either. Finally sold the 7-30 a few years ago. The 30-30 is still unfired by me. I just don’t have the desire to shoot it, but haven’t got around to selling it either.

ETA: For the OP, FWIW, these two lever actions got zero maintenance from my dad or me in the 30-40 years we had them. If they were moved around, and the blued parts handled, we’d wipe down with a rag. But that’s it. They look and work fine. That’s how it is for the majority of my collection.

If I'm bored enough after some garage beers, I'll clean guns that are already clean lol. Wipe old oil, drop some new oil in. You can say I don't hit the range that often

Long story short, I need to be storing a few pistols but the place I have in mind is not temperature controlled. Humidityc an reach 60-70% from what I've seen. They're all properly cleaned and oiled and will be in their mfg case. We're remodeling and a proper storage is part of the plan. I don't like the idea of having a giant safe bolted to the middle room so it's taking longer than expected. They're all currently locked but not theft proof. Just looking for a peace of mind when we're not home.

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting mix opinion but wanted to see what the majority is.

Put them in something like a Poly Gun Bag.

Give it to a friend or better yet family member if you can, that you trust. Don't worry about it. Some firearms I have I haven't touched in years and they're flawless.

I'm going through them now and some of them I don't even realize that I have. Back in Vegas, having the collection was a decor/art but here you can't have that so it kind of display which really beats the purpose. I'm questioning for the amount of money I'm investing in this firearm storage is worth it here in CA.
