I noticed that you can only go back and edit for a short time ( not forever at least ). How long is that ?

And there is no "delete post" option either, right ?

The time limit is 2 hours.

You can delete but need to enter a reason. You can also report anything for it to get deleted if necessary

CalGuns was THE site to go to, because of the WEALTH of information. The sheer volume of legal and technical advice was unparalleled. For this to happen, you need to be able to edit posts. For example, the posts tracking legislation or legal challenges get constantly edited to be updated for progress, accuracy, etc. I must have made hundreds of edits to my Firearms In Forests and Parks thread over the years. That can't happen here, without edit.

We have a different approach to this. In our Resource section, Authors have complete control over their content. If the content is material, you're welcome to try it out. Updates happen independent of discussions, but when you Update this will post in the discussion as part of the timeline. So there's no context loss for discussions after the fact. We try to separate discussion from REAL information so its easier to find the content, then look at the discussion around it. It's a different approach to a purely forum one. Not sure if it's good but we feel it gives Authors a private space to work with.

The law changed and needed to be updated, you can see the date the update happened. The author can update the main document without a time limit.

The time limit only applies to the forum. You have the option to delete your post, but again we want to make sure people are respectful and think about what they post prior.

Firearms in Forests & Parks sounds like an amazing resource.

I agree completely.
Not only that; sometimes people don't know any better or are just emotional and post stuff they shouldn't have.
It's critical for them to be able to go back & revise, esp. for legal reasons; we all know the CADOJ & similar were watching CalGuns....

This is precisely why we don't allow the editing. We want them to think of that before they post.

It's critical for them to be able to go back & revise, esp. for legal reasons; we all know the CADOJ & similar were watching CalGuns....

Authors of actual resources don't have that limitation. There's a distinction between a comment and following a case.

I mean, of course, but again; people make mistakes and get emotional & say things they shouldn't.
