I found out what happens when you accidentally put ammunition through the airport x-ray machine

Do not expect to get that "50 round limit" at all airports. SFO is privatized so security has a little wiggle room with certain things.

Never done this with a flight bag. I did however use a backpack that I used at gun shows to the courthouse in San Bernardino. When I passed through the metal detector and x ray machine, the sheriff stopped me and asked if I had anything in the bag that was prohibited. I responded that I did not. They started going through the bag but found nothing, then asked if there was a secret pocket (CCW bag) I realized there was one at the bottom stuffed with a bunch of $1 knives that I had grabbed while demoing a knife sharpener I used to sell. Needless to say they held on to the bag while I did my business and I was grateful.

I've had it happen more than once with loose rounds from my hunting backpacks going to Alaska. They made me toss it in the trash.
