In the news: Drone strikes air tanker in LA/Pacific Palisades fire. Any drone drivers on here?

Word is an Air Tanker hit a drone over the fire and had to cancel and return to base for inspection. A few folks are saying "drones can be traced", but I don't think a DJI sized drone could carry ADS-B (for air traffic control). Certainly drones come in many sizes, and I'm thinking maybe media has larger ones than consumers- for endurance and electronic news gathering/video feeds.

Anybody up on this? Please share.

If you're flying your drone over an area where there's tankers and choppers dropping water, and cause direct interference, because you just have to have that sweet, sweet footage for likes or engagement, not only are you a complete , but you should be charged criminally for being potentially complicit in the death of a resident who might have been saved by those water drops.

It's true. Flying a drone during times like these when fire-suppressing aircraft are trying to work is...reckless. I understand that people naturally want to use a drone to see the devastation or to check on their homes and neighborhood, but it's better to keep those drones grounded.

What are you asking exactly? If you can fit an ADS-B on a drone?

But driving doesn't really fit for an sUAV, drone operator is a more common term people use.

It probably depends on the drone. My wife bought me my first good drone and it was a Parrot BeBop 2. Parrots are great because they do not stop you from flying anywhere. Well I eventually upgraded to the Parrot Anafi and still could fly it anywhere. I could even have it lose reception and auto return into the south PG&E stack at Morro Bay at about 300 feet AGL and it die forever! So I got a DJI Mini 3 Pro and of course if I am in a TFR or any restricted area, I cannot take off without permission. I would think drones that track where you are and where you fly could in theory tell the company you are flying where you are not supposed to, but I have never heard of it.

Really just don't be a tool and fly your drone into a Canadian firefighting plane. Unless you are a criminal that is trying to bring down a plane or shut down firefighting operations. Personally I don't even fly if there is a residential house fire in my small town even though I know there are not going to be any air assets. I don't want the legal exposure and I do not need photos or videos that bad.
