Internet gun transfer fee

$75 transfer fee in CA is honestly pretty reasonable and about as good as you’ll find without likely having to drive somewhere way out of your way to maybe save $15-25 (and you also have to make the drive twice). It sucks, but the FFL is providing a service and in this case they have full discretion over how much they charge for that service.
 
$75 total with DROS included means they are only charging about $38 for the transfer fee. That's as good as it gets. For at least the past 10-15 years, FFLs have been charging anywhere from $50 to $100, not including DROS. So in that respect, transfer fees haven't really increased. I had a shop that didn't charge a transfer fee outside of DROS. Guess what happened. Word got out, and everybody and their brother started doing transfers there. It wasn't very good for business, so they started charging, I think, $25, which is still a bargain. If a shop is charging more than $100 for a transfer, they are telling you they don't want to do transfers. Better to find a place that wants to do them.
 
$75 is pretty normal. I've seen many shops ask $100-150 which is insane to me. Cheapest I ever paid was a home FFL in Manteca that was charging like $25 a DROS. Placer sporting club only charges members $40

I talk to people in other states who say nowhere charges more than 15 bucks.

CA is very expensive to do business in and wages are higher. If they're both working 8 hour days at only $18 an hour that's $288 just in raw pay let alone taxes and benefits.

So I can empathize with the owners.

+1 for GLS. Best FFL around. I’ve gotten all sorts of interesting items with their help.

Glad to see they’re getting a retail location now, but I’ll miss the charm of the converted garage for a showroom, haha!!

OP, $75 + DROS is about normal.

Also, I’m not sure what the price of the gun has to do with it?

If we acknowledge that the FFL has expenses (labor, rent, insurance, etc), then it’s the same expenses for a $300 gun and a $7,000 gun, right?

My go-to, GLS Armory in Alta Loma, charges $50 + DROS and I’m happy to pay it!! Best FFL in town.
 
thats not a PPT thats a in bound transfer and isnt held up to the PPT Law, All shipments into a dealer are different than PPT. Think of it this way, why sould i have a business where you buy form some online shop for a discounted price and then make me do all the paperwork for pennies, im the onw holding all the liability on the transfer not the guy who sold you the gun for below map princing as it is

The dros is for the paperwork right? Which I already pay. This is simply a fee to punish buyers for getting discounts. In this particular case you can see I bought the gun from a charity as well so there was already a donation made. This was just another donation to the gun store owner who is probably well off

It’s not a donation when you’re receiving a service in return for the amount paid. The FFL has to receive, inspect and store the firearm, prepare the paperwork, log the firearm in their A&D book, and is liable for what happens to that firearm in the intervening time. $75 seems like a reasonable amount to charge for all of that. Yes it sucks to get tagged with additional fees as a buyer, especially when the price of the firearm is pretty modest, but the price you paid for the gun has no bearing on the work and liability being taken on by the FFL.

Who cares if you bought it from a charity, that has nothing to do with the dealer.

I hope you tip 20% for waitresses and waiters with that attitude or is it just wealthy business owners you have empathy for?
 
That’s a big assumption that gun shops are run by the “wealthy”

I see gun shops and ranges closing down on the regular.

Do you want to see more good shops shutting down or do you want to support the community you benefit from? I’d rather support the shops I respect than support Newsom’s excise tax.

I’m grateful the fees charged by the dealers are a fixed rate instead of a percentage when you buy a $2000.00 gun instead of a $300 gun.

Next time buy more guns and you won’t feel the burn so much 😉

The DROS fee is a charge owed to the DOJ which the FFL pays on your behalf. So consider the money they lose when you run it on a card and they lose a percentage to merchant fees. I am willing to bet that CADOJ charges the FFL a transaction fee if they run it electronically as well. They lose money on every DROS.

So tell me again what the issue is with a $75 charge on labor hours, liability, inventory, and PERMANENT record keeping.
