Is canik poorly made?

Bought an MC9 when they first became available well aware of the issues with not returning to battery, and that a "break in period" of 100-200 rounds was needed. (supposedly).
650-700 rounds later, still had issues with the gun returning to battery. It became a range toy/safe queen. It's a really cool looking gun that I don't mind holding onto, but it isn't anything I would trust to defend my life.

Before I purchased my MR920, the shop I was buying from had an off roster Canik TTI for sale on consignment...the comparison was obvious.

Racking the TTI felt like it was running across sandpaper, and overall just felt like a movie prop more than a capable firearm. Regardless of where they are made, how they are made felt sub-par in my hands.

Modern day striker fired Caniks are Walther P99 clones. I would love a Walther equivalent of a G43X/G48 or P365 but they don't make one so I got the closest thing, a MC9 Prime. The MC9 Prime is made in the US if that makes a difference.
If walther made a PDP subcompact like that, that would be pretty epic

That's what people wanted the PDP-F to be but Walther did a half ass job by only reducing the grip size not the width and height of the gun.

The PDP F x PMM with Ozempic and daily exercise would produce the ideal product. The Canik Prime and CR920XP are the target Walther should go after with their micro pistol. I have the CR920XP and that skinny girl absolutely rips.

I own a couple caniks a tp9 sf i got like 3 years ago and it has a solid gun.Saw it in local shop for 375 and figured what the heck fit hand good felt good and i can use a 9mm so i bought it.First range trip i ran a row of steel targets pretty easily. So far its my main target shooter still as i can shoot it better than my colt 1911.

Later saw the mc9 and had a g43 as my carry gun but wanted more capacity but held off on the mc9 because some had issues finally got one and that too has been trouble free.So now have 12 rounds vs 6 in a gun just barely bigger. Both guns have had no issues wirh 115 or 124

I would argue that the person who posted that is using a small sample size fallacy, or an n of 1 applied to all Canik pistols, which seems wildly unfair and illogical to say the least.

Could it be ammo? Could it be something else? The BG 2.0 doesn't like all .380 ACP ammo but that doesn't mean the gun is trash.
Yeah, I’ve heard similar things

Hellcats and echelons are from Croatia. What does it matter when it’s a quality firearm? CZ makes some of the very best firearms on the market at reasonable prices as well. In fact I am salivating over eventually getting a CZ BREN 3 and Shadow 2 Carry. If I ever buy another striker fired pistol it will be a Canik Prime Radian. Now the Primes are designed and built here in America but cost double an MC9 LS which was my favorite striker to date.
HS Product dosent make knockoffs....... Their designs are original and imported under stupid names picked by some marketing idiot at Springfield Armory. Turkey does not make quality firearms. They make knockoff pistols and cheap shotguns for the American market.

There are far worse guns. The early production had some issues to iron out. One could argue that QC even here in America for high production lines hasn’t been stellar. If you have issue with Canik. That’s your right. Current models and production are good. Reliability may even be better than some well known brands

Like I have stated I bought mine on a whim. Was very impressed and everyone I let shoot it has liked it. Think some that own certain brands don’t like a cheaper alternative that already has a crisp trigger and accurate reliable gun.

The mags from the larger guns also work on the smaller versions too.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews. It wouldn't keep me from purchasing one, but I would do a very extensive break in period of at least 2 to 400 rounds to address any issues that it might have. I don't think it's going to have failure to go into battery issues if it's been running perfectly up till that point. Problems I've read about seem to occur right out of the box or very early on

Like others have stated, all pistol lines have an opportunity for lemons. In the limited amount of time that I have owned my Mete9 ( 2 years, 1,900ish rounds through it), there have been no issues with feeding or firing. Running factory ball ammo, PD ammo and even my reloads out of it.

Overall I have a high appreciation for Canik pistols and their quality. I would venture into saying that either it's a lemon, bad ammo (less likely) or possibly user error in grip and handling. Just my 2c
I trust this guys word better than my own..

That said, i have a Rival Plastic and it runs pretty good unless i don't clean it. One time, the optic screws sheered off and the optic hit me in the face which wasn't cool but I have about 12k rounds through it everything OEM except the recoil spring.

Caniks are pretty solid IMO.

Yet the SIG P365 is wildly popular. SiG has one bad model (P320), and they could have handled the PR better when the complaints surfaced.

Despite the way SIG handled the P320 issue, we can't say the entire brand is terrible.
P365 is the most popular CCW and the P226 is one of the best all around handguns ever made period. The P320 is a nice pistol as well, it's a good upgrade from the M9 we used to have. They had some teething problems with the drop safety issue before 2017, recent times they have been flawless

on youtube you can find issues , just like the sig p320 it's going to see like a big deal because the people who had issues will be the loudest voices.

saw a couple that claimed issues after 500 rounds but again people who complain will scream to the world. I don't own one so I can't tell, I do have an sig P320 legion I am currently happy with.
Have you run into any issues with ranges not allowing them? I’ve heard that some people have.

Hmmmmm… Now this is just my opinion so ….

I have a PDP 4.5 with a DPT in it along with a lighter firing pin block spring, a Sprinco recoil system setup, and a more aggressive grip setup from grab it.
(Recoil spring and striker springs in this PDP was way over sprung and I’ve tried and used the ZR stuff and just liked the Springco better) I am also running a better that OEM optic mounting plate.
It shoots pretty good.

I also have a Canik SFX rival with the Freedomsmith trigger shoe, Springco recoil system setup, lighter FPB spring, and if memory serves me right I’m running the OEM striker spring, lighter trigger return spring, and again the same aggressive grip setup from grab it. Plus a better aftermarket optic mounting plate.
It also shoots pretty good.

Both guns have thousands of rounds through them. Again this is my opinion here. The PDP feels better in hand. The PDP looks far better. (My Canik is the silver/yellow unit and it’s a good thing I could care less because imo this color is …well I don’t like it.) The PDP feels smoother racking the slide.
As I said above both have thousands of rounds through them with zero malfunctions on both.
So the PDP looks better. The PDP feels better. And I would take the Canik without a doubt every day of the week because I shoot it better by a good margin.
One thing I’ve found on both is they both shoot better with slightly hotter ammo. They again imo like 125 gr power factor around 135-137….vs the 130-134 stuff. One big benefit of reloading is ya get to play with different stuff😃. I mainly shoot steel hammer guns but lately I’ve played around on the “dark side striker stuff”. Ha ha.

Oops I should have said this above I do like the stock Canik trigger system with a Freedomsmith trigger vs the Walther DPT…by a good amount. ( I do like the factory trigger return spring installed in the DPT vs the unit that came in the DPT.

I’m not a “lighter is better” trigger person. Many times I’ve gone up in trigger pull weights and kinda use numbers as just a reference. Both of my above guns are (I’m guessing here) around 3 1/2 +. I could and did get both very reliably down to 3 or just slightly lower …but to me more felt better here.

I don’t carry. I don’t run flashlights on the bow. I run production and carry optics class stuff.

Sorry for being long winded 🤪
