Hay Gunners,

Just had my first experience with attempting to do the legit thing with some ammo. I sold a fella in SC some SKS goods he needed to put together an SKS D thumbhole AK mag fed rifle build. A forbidden item in Kali (but I had the guts for one). To show his gratitude, the guy sent me a few boxes of .41 mag. I told him he needed to use UPS and ship C/O me to my FFL. Wrong. First time using the current ammo process. I didn't know (my bad) it had to go FFL to FFL. They can't legally receive it and have to return it to the seller's FFL on my dime. Lesson learned. More reason to go renegade :mad: PAX
 
They don’t think it stops crime, they just do what their constituents ask of them to get elected.

It hasn't been hard for me as I've had a .41 Blackhawk since the '70's and I got a Henry BBS rifle too a few years ago (the one on the bottom with a bigger loop), plus I get to Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washinton on a fairly regular basis and know where many pawn and gun shops are. I have over 1K of various .41 loads and there used to be a licensed ammo builder near me that would put match grade together on request, all new components. Depending on who is with, I bring a .41 pistol and rifle if solo in Griz country, or a pair of .357 revolvers (4" & 6") and a couple Rossi's if with the spousal unit, at the least a .22 handgun and a 10/22 always. Get yourself exempt of this hassle with an 03FFL and a COE.
It makes it so much easier.

I have no idea what you are talking about. There is zero requirement that ammunition be shipped FFL to FFL. Anyone should be able to ship to your CA FFL or ammo vendor ammunition. It sounds to me like you have a FUD FFL that is increasing costs and hassles for you. Secondly, a CA FFL or ammo vendor should be able to ship ammo to anyone outside of California that it is legal. Seriously, I think your FFL screwed you.
 
It's really unfortunate that you have to ask CA FFLs what there policies are before you attempt to do any type of transfer.

OP - I think your FFL is full of you know what.
Mt. McCoy Auctions (formerly part of Lock Stock and Barrel) buys ammo from private parties and puts it up for sale on GB.
I know other FFLs that buy ammo from private parties for local resale as well.

I hope you have other local FFLs (that you like to do business with) to choose from.

One of these days, I hope to get out and shoot my .41 mag.
I don't care for the grip (it's too big) on it and I'd like to find some original wood grips.

"30312
(a) (1) Commencing January 1, 2018, the sale of ammunition by any party shall be conducted by or processed through a licensed ammunition vendor.

(2) When neither party to an ammunition sale is a licensed ammunition vendor, the seller shall deliver the ammunition to a vendor to process the transaction. The ammunition vendor shall promptly and properly deliver the ammunition to the purchaser, if the sale is not prohibited, as if the ammunition were the vendor’s own merchandise. If the ammunition vendor cannot legally deliver the ammunition to the purchaser, the vendor shall forthwith return the ammunition to the seller. The ammunition vendor may charge the purchaser an administrative fee to process the transaction, in an amount to be set by the Department of Justice, in addition to any applicable fees that may be charged pursuant to the provisions of this title.

(b) Commencing January 1, 2018, the sale, delivery, or transfer of ownership of ammunition by any party may only occur in a face-to-face transaction with the seller, deliverer, or transferor, provided, however, that ammunition may be purchased or acquired over the Internet or through other means of remote ordering if a licensed ammunition vendor initially receives the ammunition and processes the transaction in compliance with this section and Article 3 (commencing with Section 30342) of Chapter 1 of Division 10 of Title 4 of this part."

Lets wager. Ammo can only come only a vendor listed with the DOJ via UPS, marked as HAZMAT, to a Kali FFL, logged, taxed and fees charged. Private parties cannot ship to an FFL. Are you an 01, I can see if they'll forward it to you.
@ BobGBA I might have OG grips. I've had 2 Blackhawks, one with Pachmyr and other with over molded wood. PAX

Ammunition is not hazmat. Why couldn't a private party ship ammo to a dealer? From the quote above, "or through other means of remote ordering if a licensed ammunition vendor initially receives the ammunition and processes the transaction in compliance with this section and Article 3" The dealer is completely making nonsense up. I would try one more time to take the penal code in to them and ask them to process the transaction. Further, ask them to call the DES number and see if they say an FFL cannot accept ammunition from a private party. They probably won't know, but it is worth a shot.

Have the ammo forwarded to me. I will take care of you no problem.

If that's what your FFL told you, get a new FFL.

Ammo is not hazmat.
Anyone can ship ammo to an FFL for the FFL to do the transfer.
There is no requirement for the ammo to originate from an FFL.
That's a requirement that your FFL is making up to not have to do the transfer for you.

If you have it shipped to westsidearms, you will have to visit them IN PERSON to pickup the ammo.
They can not mail it to you because they need to do the transaction in person.
This is the same reason that ammo sellers within CA can not do mailorder ammo sales.
The ammo has to be picked up in person and your ID shown to do the transfer.
 
Well, they're further away than the price of gifted ammo is in fuel costs. The ammo coming isn't even marked ammo. PAX

You can have it shipped to them and then have them ship it to your FFL who will accept it from them.
The hazmat thing is false though and if they still require that, you just need to find another FFL to use.
For less trouble, you may consider getting your 03FFL and COE so you can have ammo shipped directly to your residence.

Thanks echo1, but mine is a Super Blackhawk Hunter, the Blackhawk grips are too small for the frame.
