What year did CA mandate private long arms sales have to go through an FLL?
I know I bought some older rifle's direct like 15 years ago, was there a difference between C&R and newer model's then if they were second hand?
I recall seeing many AR's on seller's tables mixed in with bolt and lever rifle's at the gun shows.

Initially, 1991 for background checks.

Then, 2014 for background checks with DOJ maintaining a database of transfers.

Not sure if there was an exception for gun show sales under the original 1991 statute.

91 was for new guns if I recall, even if C&R for all states, private transfers were different.
I bought many face to face.

Ahh, I was pretty young in 1991, so kinda before my time in that sense.

But I do remember buying my first rife at a gun show (an M1 carbine) circa 1999 or 2000 and taking it home the same day.

That makes sense.

If someone shotgun prior to 2014, even though they did the 10 days waiting period. Its records are not maintained in any database?

From what I remember it was only licensed dealers that you had to fill out paper work regardless if it was a C&R or new firearm, AR's, AK's and so on were always at private tables where one could just buy it and take it home. I sold many Norinco AK sporters that way, 120.00-140.00, buy a new furniture set from Shotgun News and sell them at the next Reno gun show for 4-500.00 but I was always very selective on who I sold them to. If they were from out of state it was a no, if they looked like a criminal it was no, if they could not provide a proper picture ID it was a no, I recorded every sale in my ledger so I ad a name attached to every rifle just in case.
