New CA gun laws effective July 1st

#3 Has nothing to do with armed vs non armed staff and has nothing to do if you are behind the counter or in an office. If during the scope of your employment you can touch guns&ammo you need to take the test (basically all employees with a COE)

So many things that guy said were 100% wrong.... I hate youtubers who spew nonsense.

do you happen to know if we can still do PPT or consignment for glocks after July 1? Or does this law only affect glocks sold by FFLs

After last year... Like youtubers except for maybe Reno May were often incorrect on the details, but Copper Jacket was the worst, and also at this point I know he spins things for more drama and more clicks just making stuff up. He's probably the worst for accuracy, followed by Don Hammond (CA Gun Law News and Updates channel)... at least for legislation, I think Don is fine talking about standing gun law

legislative updates. I'm not judging his legal analysis regarding standing law or litigation update videos.
So this is all off of last year when he was starting to do updates...

Talking about SB-704 (barrel transfers)
At 5:48 he says the whole bill if passed into law would take effect July 1st, 2027, which as we know is false; the law took effect on Jan 1, 2026, and instead the eligibility check will go into effect on July 1st, 2027. This left the viewer with the impression that they didn't have to worry about barrels until 2027.

This was a video of him saying that the bills had become law when they actually hadn't. There's a in-depth comment explaining how that's a misreading of California Constitution. He did take down the video at least when somebody must have told him he was wrong.

After they became law in October, he did this video:

At 6:10 he says the new requirements for SB-704 that Firearm Barrels go through a dealer start July 1st, 2027. Which as we know is false; they took effect on Jan 1, 2026, and instead the eligibility check will go into effect on July 1st, 2027. This left the viewer with the impression that they didn't have to worry about barrels until 2027.

at 7:00 he talks about AB-1263 being a ban on 3D printing firearms, and goes on to detail the parts of AB-1263 that add prohibitions on 3D Printing firearms. He never even brings up the part shipping + ID restrictions that would go into effect in 2026. Anyone viewing that would have no idea that starting in 2026 firearm part sales to California would be restricted. And that's the thing... I mean the only explanation that you can come up with him missing a WHOLE PART OF A BILL is that he didn't really read the bill. Instead, as mentioned in the post you replied to, he relied on outdated summaries of AB-1263 from GOC/CRPA that were never updated after Sam Paredes died, because the initial summary only discussed the ghost gun portion of AB-1263.

Or you could have read the CA 2025 New Gun Law Practical Overview on reddit and had the correct information to make informed decisions about if you were going to purchase parts or barrels before the new year. As pointed out in that guide no youtubers except Reno May actually reported on the part shipping restrictions early on.

And that's the frustrating thing. It's like... the Star Wars prequels, with Obi Wan yelling to Anakin "YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!". You have a gun lawyer with good credentials and good reputation, delivering videos proclaiming to inform about CA Gun Law and Legislation in a manner that is calm, reserved, not hyped... This is exactly what we could use more of. And It's wrong. And not only is it wrong, but it's not really corrected with update videos or anything either. It's called out in the comments in his videos which he replies to some but none of the ones that point out the legal issues with his conclusions.

So I dunno. I just wish he'd get things right, or at least when he gets them wrong, do an update and correct it.

Later talks about AB-1263

At 2:04 still gives the wrong start date for SB-704, and the whole video talks about people confusing that parts had to go through FFLs for AB-1263, which sure they don't, but he dismissively talks about vendors not going through the AB-1263 process as if implementing AB-1263 requirements are easy, and well "Midway did it painlessly!", when that's not easily feasible for small gun part vendors. He comes off as kind of a snide jerk in this video tbh.

So yeah. Maybe a good lawyer, maybe his litigation videos and his videos talking about standing law are fine, but I would not trust his legislation update videos.
