Hello everyone! I found out the site through a friend. I'm new to this and learning more as the site grows . I don't have my own gun yet, but hoping to find one through here or get advice on what's best in general. And maybe make some friends, too. I've handled several firearms and taken classes and going to take more down the road. I'm in SoCal in the South Bay area.

Nice! I've taken Steve Andersons class with Fabio & Ben Hardt. Really cool guys and took Modern Samurai's Class a couple of times, I'm a certified MSP RDS Instructor. Nearly got the 3/4 but missed by 1 C on the bill drill. I couldn't come close to the 25 yard in under 1.25s. I think this year I should be able to clear it. It's a fun challenge and I learned a bit from his class. I have not heard of Street Encounters. I'm taking JJ Racaza's class when he comes at the end of the year to Richmond.

Yeah, Fabio was a nice guy to take a class from. You’ll get an MSP patch next time. I believe black belt at 25 is actually a 1.5 s par, but I could be misremembering. I blew everything except the Draw 1 during the patch run when I took the course:

3*2 - 2.0s 1 out head high (bravo)
Draw 1 -0.86s
Bill - 2.12s 1 out left (Charlie)
25 - 1.43s out low right (delta)

I definitely learned some helpful things in the MSP course. It’s cool You got the instructor cert!

Street Encounters is a course offered by John Murphy of FPF Training. It’s less a course about shooting mechanics and marksmanship and more of a course about recognizing and responding to street crime. It covers topics ranging from managing unknown contacts, to using OC spray, to targeting critical anatomy with a handgun, to basic first aid. Seems like a well rounded course. The course gets high remarks from people I’ve heard talk about it on podcasts (Scott Jedlinski plus John and Sarah Haupman), but it’s not a super popular course since it’s not a high round count class.

Glad Ikeo made this, I was planning on making a modern version of caguns.net as well but under socalffirearms.com as I own the domain. This is way better than anything I could've made so big thank you Ikeo!

I am a native Californian, US Navy submarine veteran, FFL03+COE holder, CCW holder, reloader, and a very pro-2A guy. I am usually shooting at Iron Sights in Oceanside, or Route 66.

Hey there, heard this from my youngest brother who probably saw this from r/CAguns.

I live in SoCal in Oxnard and I usually shoot at either Shooter's Paradise or Smoking Barrel with a few trips to Oak Tree and California Tactical Academy and while I've been interested in firearms, it wasn't until the end of COVID lockdowns in 2021 that I finally owned one, a used Kimber Warrior II from a local gunshop.

Since then, I now own 2 other pistols: a Sig Sauer P226 with West German markings and a Beretta Px4 Storm that has been through Langdon Tactical twice now.

Eyeing to expand the pews with a Beretta 1301 and potentially an AR-15 for the first time. Also eyeing for a P365 to put on my CCW when it comes up (although I'm not a fan of mag disconnects).

Anyway, hope to have a good time here.

I found Calguns quite useful for certain things. The new format is not working as well for me. I found this site on NorCal Shooters Association FB. I find Reddit to be an unhealthy mental space in general , deleted my account and avoid browsing it . It’s healthy to accept reality as it is and not censor objective observations that contrast with a fantasy of how reality should be. That’s the opposite of most of Reddit. I get better info on most most shooting interests from fellow shooters at my local club and at matches, classes and YouTube. I’m interested in the Marketplace, Training Classes and local USPSA matches. I’m really interested in finding a good tactical shotgun class in NorCal.

Greetings all!
I consider myself a very casual firearms owner. The armory below was developed over a course of 10-ish years.
Before becoming introduced to firearms, I would never have though I would own a firearm. I don't hunt, I don't compete, I don't have too many enemies (i think), I don't play with gangs, I don't do crime, etc. So I didn't think I'd ever need one. I was encouraged to at least get a firearm for home defense purposes, after I purchased a home. As many of you will attest, I had the same question as many new folks coming into firearms would have: "which firearm for home defense?"
I knew the answer (better answer with respect to the decision I ended up making) was going to be a shotgun, but preferred the pistol against better judgement, as seen below in my list of firearms in the armory.

I found my way here by Reddit like a bunch of other folk before me did.


My first firearm is a Springfield Armory XD-9mm.
The private armory to-date:

• Springfield XD-9 - as mentioned above
• Glock 19 - got this because I got the Ruger PCC below, and now it can share ammo and mags
• Ruger 10/22 - plink-o-fun
• Ruger PC Carbine 9mm - to pair with a G19 in case of SHTF, whenever it does hit the fan
• AR-15 - pieced together to be CA compliant/evil-free, Strikes Industries Lower, Aero Precsion upper assembly, Strikes Industries Jcomp, Sparrow Dynamics "compliant" grip, and Magpul locked-stock
• Mossberg Maverick 88 - should have been my first, but wanted a handgun first. This was #2

• An oldie (for me): tnoutdoors9 - this is the channel I went to during my introduction to firearms. This channel actually helped me to decide 9mm would be the primary caliber for me, and that guided me towards most of the firearms I own
• iraqveteran8888 - this channel, before YT cracked down, introduced the AR15 platform, and most importantly how to assemble it

Greetings from central Ohio. I came across CAguns on reddit. I mainly do range shooting, but I am very interested in getting practical offensive/defensive training in the future. I got into Holosun optics recently, and had no idea I have a bad astimatism so I see a starburst instead of a dot whether green or red. The Holosun 507c X2 ACSS Vulcan was awesome and I found the 2moa dots were better for me b/c the starbust was smaller. No more optics until I can get Lasiks again.

H&K-vp9 and vp9sk in paddle and button (thought I would be okay with paddles. Nope)
CZ-p10c or sr (but took threaded barrell off..was trying to conceal. Kept the threaded barrel)
CZ-p10s - currently being fixed at CZ. Would not chamber 147 gr hp in feed ramp on first load attempt.
Glock 19mos
Springfield Armory - Hellcat Pro with rear nubs shaved off.

Smith and Wesson Shield Plus NS

I love to bullpup everything, and prefer esoteric or eclectic designs over standards.

I am currently getting into old night vision collecting, anything decent before microchannel plates to keep costs down and part availability high.

Favorite channel is Forgotten Weapons without a doubt! close second is Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms and Artillery from the Royal Armouries Museum in London, UK!
