I’m a stray that found this place via Reddit. I’m learning as fast as I can and since I’m in CA, I have to learn a separate set of rules too :ROFLMAO:

I got back into looking at firearms at the wrong time again. Previously, right before the AWB. Now I’m late to another ban (Glock).

But it’s never too late to start!

I happened to find a used Glock 17 Gen 3 recently. I visited a shop near my friend’s pad and I was hoping to find a friendly FFL. I’ve been looking at the forums and consignment from various stores and the prices for soon to be off-roster Glocks is stomach churning.

I was looking a few months ago and everything in SoCal already out of stock. There is a place in NorCal that sells to veterans but when I contacted a FFL here they said they could not accept the transfer. Maybe I should have tried a transfer elsewhere.

At least I got something and the price wasn’t outrageous. I hope I can have some fun with it before it has to be serviced.
 
Hello!!

I found this website through a guy at my local gun range. He bought an M1 Garand from here without going through the whole CMP process, which got me interested since I’ve been wanting one too.

My go-to range is Metcalf in South San Jose, I just really like that place. Lately, I’ve been enjoying shooting my rifles, but if I had to narrow it down to three, the ones I take out the most are my bolt action 300 Win, AR, and single-shot 45-70.

I'm waiting for the hype to die down. Prices won't be high forever. It's not like the quantity of used Glocks is diminishing; just the new. Besides, there's plenty of good alternatives still available.

New member here. I was a 5+ year member on the now-defunct CalGuns.net, and after a couple of years, I finally decided to make an account here on CAGuns. Looking forward to enjoying and contributing more to the 2A side of things on this forum.

Interest-wise, I’m mostly into the tactical and defensive side of shooting, with a background in competitive shooting as well - although that’s been on pause for the past year or so due to life getting in the way. While I own a few other platforms, I’m mainly a Glock shooter. Not necessarily by choice, but because Glocks were the most accessible platform when I started. After thousands of dry-fire and live-fire reps, it’s simply the system I’m most proficient with.

I joined the club about two years ago now when I sourced parts for my first AR15 chambered in 223 wylde, shortly after bought a Glock 19 Gen3 and then my last build of an AR-Pistol.

Looking forward to being apart of this community

So for a PPT, an FFL is still involved, got it.


Seller: brings the firearm to the FFL.
Buyer: brings the cash to the FFL.


FFL: runs the DROS, holds the firearm and the payment for the 10 day waiting period, and charges their own transfer fee to the buyer. After the 10 days, the buyer picks up the firearm, the seller receives the payment, and the FFL keeps their fee.

Welcome to the site.

You pay the seller (cash, typically) before paperwork is started, and you hope your background check doesn't come back "undetermined". This is why you want an FFL that releases on undetermined. If you get denied then the seller should get their gun back and you "might" get a refund from the seller if they're honest and responsive.

PPT= Person to Person Transfer. Always needs an FFL and both parties present. 10-day wait for buyer before earliest pickup date which will be indicated on your copy of DROS form, along with a latest pickup date.

You can only do 5 PPTs per calendar year as a seller but each DROS can be more than one gun, up to 50 total.

Off-roster guns are exempt with PPT but you will generally pay a premium. With enough money/luck/good timing it's like living in a free state. The 1-in-30 prohibition is dead for now, and if you have an FFL-03 then you're exempt anyway. Topic for another day or some research.

There are some sweet guns being added or already added to the roster, like the Staccato HD C3.6 and the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 and its Carry Comp cousin.

I had no idea about the 5 PPT per year law, I just sold my 4th recently, good to know!
 
Hey y'all, first time posting but have browsing here for awhile. I've inherited a few firearms from my father in 2021 and have been collecting them since then, wallet is feeling a bit light lol. Luckily, I'm able to shoot on my property and built out a decent range, max is around 50 yards. I try practice every other weekend, mostly pistol but I'll bring out the rifles every now and then. My goal this year is to get my CCW and start trying to get into competition.

Howdy! New to this community and looking to keep up with all the ever-changing gun laws, and hopefully see them kicked to the curb, starting with the CA roster. Also looking to learn new things and share what knowledge my old brain can muster.
