Northern-Central-Southern

This has been a pet peeve of mine for many moons. If San Francisco and the Bay area is Northern Kali, Fresno area is Central Valley and LA South is Southern Kali. What are members like myself North of Sacramento to be considered. The Artic, North Pole or how about the State of Jefferson. I know the State of Jefferson will never happen, but a person can dream. I am also curious do I have to apply for an out of state CCW?
But I guess I should not gripe, I breath fresher air, see the stars at night can go to ranch & shoot in any direction without any worry, see all kinds of wildlife so really, I am one of the lucky ones after all.

I am in the Bay Area and never thought it was 'northern'. We are north of southern CA, but there is still another 400 miles to the Oregon border!

Bay area is central CA. Eureka, Crescent City and Shasta is Northern Ca.

I am in the SF Bay and it has always been called Nor Ca.

But mainly because it's not So Ca.

I always saw it as SF and Sac region population was the mass, northern area. LA and SD is the southern side of it.

Right or wrong.... Perception.

I always thought the appeal of anything north of San Fran was left out of the NorCal-SoCal discussion.
You can still pay California rate taxes but feel like it’s a different state.

Just FYI, that part of California is my favorite.

I'm with you. Being able to search by regions is a huge improvement over CalGuns for example, but when I select NorCal I'm still looking at listings up to 4 or 5 hours away at times. I'm two hours from Sacramento and 3 hours from San Francisco so the sub regions don't really help much either.

When they rolled out the site I asked for the ability to filter by County but the Devs understandably thought that to be unnecessary/too much due to how many counties there are in California. But... I think that same reasoning is exactly why filtering by counties (or something similar) would be really helpful for those of us that don't live in the main population centers.

when I lived in Siskiyou County they called the bay Southern California LOL. The real reason is though that 95% of the population lives either in the Bay or near LA so that's who makes the rules

Bay Area here. Always been considered Norcal from the Socal folks. Central is considered Sacramento/San Joaquin valley. Redding/Shasta/Ukiah/Mendocino have received no love in this regard. They are the the forgotten realm.

I am in Kern County and anything below Sacramento/San Francisco can be Central California. I consider Sac/SF to all be Nor Cal. Kern County is the southern Central boundary. I do not really consider us in the Central Valley to be So Cal, but anything LA or below is SoCal and you norteños probably consider us Kern Countians So Cal. Really, I think the whole thing is relative unless you live in Fresno you are definitely Central CA, Los Angeles and below is So Cal, and anything probably north of Redding is definitely Nor Cal.

I think the issue is that the search parameters leave many users to scroll through a lot of listings that are geographically unavailable, even when using the region/subregion filters. For NorCal, for example, there are 270ish miles between Sacramento and the Oregon border that can’t be narrowed down beyond NorCal. When I browse listings, a good percentage of them are 2-3+ hours away. It would be nice to be able to filter the listings to only see mine and adjacent counties, for example.

It’s a big state and there may not be a simple solution from the developer’s standpoint. I hope they see this conversation as constructive and not critical.
