Not doing the 11% tax any more?

So funny thing…I was showing the glitch to a coworker yesterday and now my web browser is not showing the 11% tax.

Starting to wonder if its intentional but I would think if it were they would advertise the out of it. In huge letters on their website etc.

For example, my LGS/local gun range has had "member appreciation days" where for that day they advertise that they will cover the 11%. But they advertise the crap out of it.

Probably an error, they had competitive prices a few years ago and I put a few 10% off coupon codes that worked for firearms. That didn't last long as I still have 3 10% off codes, but it only works for non firearm and ammo.

Side question, anyone know how much 29 Outdoor Gear charge for FFL fee for new online firearm purchases that go through them?

I just placed an order at the Corona location because it's pretty much the same price as going through a place like https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/ once you take into account the sin tax you have to pay on import if you don't have a ffl/coe. There's a shop in SD that doesn't charge an ammo transfer fee that I was going to do it at.

Also Corona only charged me 8.05% sales tax instead of 8.75% as well.

Just talked about the logistics of this with a coworker. I'm assuming @DIYPSCM was charged the $1 background fee separately when picking up the ammo. I have bought guns and ammo from Sportsman's online and they charge background fees at time of pickup (ammo) and starting DROS (guns). Wonder if Sportsman's is in a transition of charging the 11% from the online sale to when backgrounds are done.

We have 20 different sales tax rates in San Diego county.

Where I live is 7.75%. Some areas are 10%. Where you buy sets the rate, not where you live. That can make a large difference buying a car in National City VS Carlsbad.

More like 4 different sales tax rates. Corona location sales tax rate according to https://maps.cdtfa.ca.gov/ is 8.75%. They charged me less.

Are you sure? My understanding when you purchase a car is that the sales tax charged is based on your residence zip code?

Can confirm, didn't get charged tax.
With the 5% off 10+ boxes on two separate orders of ammo i only ended up paying like $10 of tax. Cheaper or as good as ordering online.

Sportsman's Warehouse is a great ammo option for anyone who has one nearby. It's not the absolute cheapest compared to some of the internet companies but it is usually the cheapest of brick and mortar in California. Do order online first and try to pick up late morning to early afternoon when most people are at work to avoid the lines.

Bought 1k rounds of 9mm ammo today from my local Sportsman's Warehouse. Bought & paid for it online, picked up a couple of hours later. I wasn't charged the 11% online or at the store... is it no longer a thing?

Paid $12.34/box, $268 out the door... cheaper than doing an out of state transfer.

Dont look a gift horse in the mouth. Concider yourself lucky.

Just bought 40 boxes of 9mm.. saved 5% and no extra 11%. THANKS!! I didn't buy ammo for almost a year now, still have a bunch but do not want to pay that extra. It is my understanding that the 11% is self reporting, so companies can work that out how they want to.

Someone would have noticed by now, someone would have said something or done somethjng by now. I think they’ve just decided to eat the costs; with them being a big box retailer (that are overpriced on most things), they can absorb the costs. And if it brings more people in, then it makes sense.

Where I’m at, which is a fairly impoverished rural county, it seems like sportsman and the local gun shop is seemingly running a never ending loop of “we cover the 11%” sale. Like sportsman’s will do it for 4-6 weeks, then the LGS, then back and back on a cycle. I’ve bought two guns and a lot of ammo since the law went into affect and haven’t paid the 11% yet.
