Only ship FFL to FFL! Shipping a gun through pirateship or just making a label at your own risk

UPS.com was where I was told to create the label and not use pirateship. I use pirateship all the time and yes had I just shippde pirateship UPS overnight it would have been fine, but federal law says its supposed to be told it is a firearm. Plus the gunsmith told me it has to be labeled in case of it going lost or something

1. Have you notified the FFL that the advice is wrong and the problems which arose from it?

1. Yes and he told me he receives hundreds of packages a month and never has an issue since he is following the law. I explained to him that it seems UPS has more stringent rules and especially california must be an issue and he said he gets packages from California too. I'll bet the packages must come from FFL's though or people just do not label em as a gun / firearm so he said he isn't planning on changing his advice. I dont know how many ask him on how to ship a gun, maybe I'm just the only idiot out there that got unlucky as well.

yup, my main point was wanting to warn everyone here... FFL to FFL only if you want the legal protected route.. otherwise its just a risk and no insurance either

I believe it used to be that you could ship that way as long as it was Next Day Air for a hand gun. UPS tightened up their firearms and firearms parts shipping policies a couple of years ago and added a lot of restrictions including the requirement to create a special account for shipping firearms parts. The gunsmiths are likely unaware of the policy changes.

UPS employee here and yes we did ban shipping of firearms through the network a few years back when evil Carol came in as our CEO after she was “fired” from Home Depot but due to the ruling from SCOTUS and USPS allowing personal firearm shipping without going through an ffl, UPS will be changing to reflect the scotus ruling. As to when we don’t know but should be soon from what we are hearing from the UPS account/ sales reps. UPS is currently having a hard time negotiating with CADOJ asking for an exemption to allow them to compete with USPS for personal firearm shipments. UPS more than likely confiscated when it got flagged by our AI xray and weight scanners but who knows these days with Carol Tome at the helm of UPS. She is pretty anti-2a. We still ship parts though in our system and I always see stuff on my route coming through from Optics Planet, Primary Arms and Brownells and FCD.

We have not changed our policies yet like USPS has after the scotus ruling. I’m just a delivery driver but couple my former sups and friends who switched over to UPS accounts and sales department from operations said they been in constant off and on meeting with CADoJ the last 2 weeks. The last meeting we had with them was last Thursday down at the UPS regional offices in Laguna but haven’t heard updates other than management telling us to be ready for firearm shipments and that we will all have to be retrained soon on it

So sorry to OP in this. Those firearms are beyond expensive and to loose that kinda money and the firearm as well.
Damn that's harsh man. I certainly unsterstand his feeling on the whole "I'm out" thing....That's just to big a hit to absorb

Now after reading through all the pages I was planning on shipping my frame off to an FFL today to get some work done. I've changed my mind and will now make the drive this weekend to drop it off and pick up when done. Haven't been up the central coast for about a year so it'll be good to go on a little road trip and spend the weekend out there.

If an employee stole or attempted to steal the gun, would not the gun be required as evidence? Seems odd that evidence would be destroyed so casually.

Thats the insane part. I spoke to UPS so many times and it seemed once someone somehow determined it was illegal (which it was not illegal) they just hand it off and this other company is there just to dispose of it. So it could be easily taken out, boxed back up and whatnot, but I find that hard to believe. I was on the phone for hours and no one at UPS could actually tell me anything.

At the end UPS agreed to get the package back for me, but then told me they were unsuccessful after their driver tried a few times. I dont even know what that means, but I guess a federal agent had the authority that this other company actually had to respond.

I could easily see someone stealing it then sending the box for disposal and no one would know. UPS told me they owe me no paper trail or anything

I'm thinking the pistol discovery wasn't due to theft but the box got damaged and the contents (pistol and/or airtag) fell out. Their cursory investigation for notification of damage and sending back to shipper or recipient lead to their acting on improper shipping procedure.

Nope, I had an airtag in there that was alive until someone destroyed it at its final location in Lousiville. Also, whenever I pack anything, I overtape the living S out of it, so there was no way anything could have happened to that box, even if it was tossed around, I had bubble wrap inside like no ones business and half a roll of tape on the outside of the durable box.

It went from Tracy CA to Oakland's port and there it got flagged and shipped to the 3rd party in Louisville. The air tag worked until louisville.

If you don't already know, you can visit most of those lighthouses along the coast.
Some need just need to schedule a tour or visit on their websites. Some have/are museums.
Definitely recommend it.
