Opinions on Beretta 92x RDO compact?

Does anyone have experience or opinions on the Beretta 92X RDO compact?

I had my sights on eventually getting a Shadow 2 Carry but now considering the Beretta instead.

It's just a modernized M9 basically right? They are awesome guns. Stupidly reliable and very accurate

My experience with Berettas was primarily in the Military and have no experience with the RDO compact. Scores went up when we transitioned from the 1911 to the M9 due to improved sights, less recoil, etc but I was never a fan. It always felt bulky for a 15rd 9mm, the slide mounted safety / decock is different from everything I own and was easily disengaged with our issued holsters, locking blocks cracked, magazines failed, the front sight generally works but can’t be replaced, and it has a long trigger pull. In my opinion, there are better options.
Looks like the RDO includes a dovetail front sight. Glad Beretta has gone with a replaceable sight.

The Beretta plate system is weird as hell and the OEM plates are like a half inch thick, there is another company that makes a low profile plate but it's $$$. The shadow 2 carry is just a PO1 that's optic ready but arguably just milling a PO1 for a direct mount would be better and a fraction of the price

There are other features to the Shadow 2 carry that have value. Such as more aggressive slide serrations, larger trigger guard, OR, shadow 2 style grip
Modules, slightly better trigger, feature rail. Not just prettiness and OR.

I prefer the recoil impulse on my berettas compared to CZs (and 2011s) by a small margin. Within the berettas, the full size ones shot better than the compact slide ones. They are chunky, wide firearms built for duty use, dont work well for carry because of that. Get the fullsize. The decocker only berettas makes the slide mounted controls a non-issue, and i havent heard pleasant things about the GTS versions. holster options with light and optic are hard to come by without going custom. The red dot sits *very* tall on the slide, even with the dlah plates that are half thickness, and requires consistent training to present the pistol lower than natural point of aim with other slide mounted handguns. Its hard to get a grip on the rear cocking serrations without just grabbing the optic, and so I trained with the front serrations, which requires being careful to not burn yourself on the barrel in long strings

the regular 92x was the most pleasant shooting full size DA/SA pistol ive used, but it is a system with significant caveats that come with it

for sure but people be charging 3k for them on here and 1k for a p01 lol. Incidentally I'm fairly certain the carry has the same trigger as the p01, the S2 compact is different though

Well yeah stuff breaks when they have 120k rounds through them. The new mags are 18 rounds btw. 15 was in 1986....
This one comes with a short reset trigger, and there's so many gucci parts out there for them

I never even considered Berettas because of their obesity. Apparently the compact versions are hard to find in general outside of CA as well. Type M single stack is CA roster but out of production. Not sure what it would feel like with such a slim line compared to the double stack type L.

Never saw them in store, but my old FFL could order them still. I stuck my head into most gun shops around DFW. Beretta Gallery didn’t even have them, god I miss that store.

Would love to find a Type M…

Wife and I just visited Triple A and got our hands on a bunch of Berettas. She fell in love with the 92 brigadier inox. I have a feeling it will be in my safe sooner than later. My objective is a DA/SA CCW but will be getting a DA/SA full size in the mean time it seems.

ALSO got my hands on a Kimber 2k11. Triple A advocated to be one of the first to have a model on hand.

My wife’s first pistol was an inox 92. We have more Berettas than anything else in the safes. You can’t go wrong really. Wish we could do all the surplus stuff they have in free states.

I only have experience with the Centurion RDO and a standard 92FS with a RDO slide they're very natural to get on target. Usually higher RDS sights take some time getting use to on a pistol, but the 92 they took no effort at all. I've had or never seen/heard of anyone having problems with their plate system at all. IMHO if it's more economical for you to buy a slide and upgrade on a 92 compact I'd go that route instead. Don't get me wrong LT triggers are great, but IMHO a 92D hammer spring will smooth out your trigger enough to where it's very difficult to distinguish between it and a LTT trigger job to your average Joe. Langdon Tactical does amazing work on multiple platforms for duty as well as competition with reliability being bar none, you can't go wrong with any of their line up if you want a high end build on a beer budget.
