been seeing so many guns priced at different prices some guns the same some priced higher that’s the same guns regardless of furniture. Does having an off roster gun hike the price up that much? What’s yall thoughts on this? With how the roster in in CA, because your gun is off roster does it mean you’re sitting on a gold mine?

Supply and demand. It’s worth whatever you’re willing to pay. I paid a few hundred above MSRP for my off roster MK25 a long time ago. At the time it felt worth it. I think that’s the only off roster gun I ever paid a premium for.

A lot of used asking prices are bad right now but there are good deals. Most of the guns I bought the last couple years I got new because they ended up being cheaper or the same price basically as buying used. Unless there’s a noticeable discount from new price why would I pay the same for a used gun?

The unconstitutional “roster” artificially limits the supply of many popular handguns. That in turn artificially increases prices. Some people think it’s an opportunity to hugely increase prices.

I refuse to pay msrp or more for a gun.
But alot of people might be pricing at what they got hustled for if the price is vastly different from one same item to the next. During covid, some on-roster Glocks went for as much as a off-roster Glock. Was it worth that much? F no, but people did get hustled.

During the high of covid, I bought a OG 4 digit serial 1st Prod. (mind you 99.9% of same model you may find are 5 digit+) Colt Combat Commander with shiny as F nickeled gun, OG grip panels (like $100+ on 2nd market) for $800 while the next best price on any CA market was $2k+.
Probably the only gun I paid more than msrp, but since it is 1st Prod. Gun, it was probably worth more than msrp at the time.

I bought an HK P7M13 for well over retail, but considering they're unobtanium, I'm happy with my purchase. If a buyer and seller are both happy with a transaction, it's not for anyone else to argue it.

Used, even at MSRP makes sense just to avoid the insane taxes. Off roster also now means no safety disconnect, loaded chamber indicator, which may be appealing to some.

I wasted money buying and selling guns I never rented / shot (also made some money on gen3 Glocks). Finally got a membership at a range with unlimited rentals so I can try things out. Realized I'm willing to pay a little extra for the gun I really want without the safety disconnect.

What I find interesting is that norcal prices seem to be lower than socal prices. Even wealthier areas up there are cheaper than say, the IE, down here .

I agree, 100% that the Norco prices are way lower than these. I swear if it wasn’t a mission to get there, I’d rather just buy my guns there the guys up there sell their guns a lot cheaper.

Nahhh. New you can usually get below MSRP, even if it’s a little more after tax you’re getting way better value.

1) BRAND NEW. No wear, no unknown history.
2) FULL WARRANTY. Original owner.

That’s like overpaying on a used car.

No doubt, I know great shops that regularly have sales and I'd rather have a brand new gun. I'm thinking mainly of discontinued firearms that cannot be purchased new anyway.

Paying over retail for a used Camry with high miles is silly but plenty of people pay over retail for classic sports cars that are no longer being made.

Just bought my first gun via PPT for a pretty reasonable price right around msrp of a brand new Cz P-01. When you consider that it’s off roster and no 11% tax, it’s pretty reasonable imo.

Now buying a Glock for $1400 or whatever sellers are asking, that makes no sense to me.

For every $2000 Glock I’m seeing for sale here, there’s a really good deal waiting to be had. I bought all my guns new from FFL prior to this transaction. Going forward I think I’ll probably keep a close eye on CAguns classifieds.
