Feedback Price Rules/Ideas for Classified Sales

I agree with Gat Man in that there should not be a minimum post count. First of all most of us are new to an already new forum and wont have high post counts. Second, as firearm transactions are F2F, take place in a FFL, and require lots of paperwork, scammers would do better elsewhere. Now things involving shipping where say it's an accessory or unregulated part and the buyer is in San Diego and the seller in Sacramento I suppose scamming is a little more likely. Might want to double check feedback/post count or just insist on PP G&S.

I had been on a knife forum for 3 years, had a decent meaningful post count and had contributed a few things. Yet on my first sale, even though it was only a $200 knife, lots of guys were giving me a hard time about my lack of feedback. Once I agreed to do PP G&S all was good. Now that I'm established I can insist on PP F&F and I literally have guys sending me funds no questions asked.

What is PP G&S, also PP F&F?

There should be a minimum post count to buy, sell, and DM members. That would help reduce scammers, as most scammers don’t have the patience to post 50 “meaningful” posts before they enact their scam. Meaningful would be at the moderators discretion.

Sellers should also be required to post a lined sheet of paper with a sharpie hand written showing their screen name, date and price in the first photo with the item of their listing in the photo, this is also to reduce scammers.

Or we could just require them to show a forum or website where they have an actual trader rating. (Calguns shouldn't count for these measurements anymore.)

I'm +51 on gafs. +3 here. (And none of my ratings are bought.)

On several occasions I've seen things listed for a price that was... laughable, AND known somewhere to get it cheaper. Is it a no-no to link to a better deal for someone who might not know better?

On several occasions I've seen people question the price on things for which they had no idea what they were looking at, AND only thought they knew of somewhere to get it cheaper - but the 'cheaper' thing they thought was the same, was not the same thing at all, in the slightest.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard "...how much? My 5 year old kid could paint that!" about an original Pollock, Rothko, or de Kooning.

Nor are all guns the same - where additions, production factors, features, history, or provenance can vary.

We can't stoop to the lowest common denominator or those that brandish ignorance like a badge, to have them be the judge and governors of price, other than to allow them the freedom of expression by way of their vote in simply not buying it.

If one sees it, and doesn't understand why something is priced the way it is, or it's simply too rich for their wallet, simply move on if unwilling to investigate, ask why, or negotiate for a better price.

It's that simple. And I can't believe this old thread on such a ridiculous topic was regurgitated out from May.

Let people ask for whatever they want. Kamala wanted to ban price gouging, don't be Kamala.

I also don't want this place to turn into calguns 2.0. Let it be better. Having different regions, on and of roster filters are huge improvements already.

If you are looking for a certain item and don't want to see those laughable prices then I think the right move is to put a pricing filter with range.

The old addage "let the market decide" is a good one. Thread crapping is just like it sounds, crap. The internet loves such drama, as do some forums and a portion of the internet citizenry. ANY "social media" platform will have "drama", "drama queens", and those who just like to kvetch for the sake of argument. My opinion is "don't feed the animals"... keep a rolled up newspaper handy as a gentle encouragement to civility, and the ban hammer for the ones who can't read the crayon writing on their walls.

There's lots of trash talking over brands, calibers, and other choices, but it really shouldn't have a place in the "marketplace" - if someone wants a gun I don't particularly like, it's not my business!! If someone's price "ain't right", the back button works wonders, unless you decide to make an offer and see what happens.


As for "the market", I've been observing that since the microstamping requirement was dropped and suddenly John Q. Public can walk in to any retail gun store and get pretty much any "utility gun" they want instead of being stuck with outdated "roster" guns from a decade ago... the "off roster" premium ain't what it used to be, and a significant portion of "buyers" will just go into the local store and have no reason to seek out an online "deal". On the plus side, there are quite a few nice and serviceable off roster guns going for realistic prices, and the overpriced ones will just sit and sit until the seller adjusts to TODAYS market. IMO that "adjustment" is still ongoing, and CGN has a lot of UNadjusted listings.


When I saw the direction things were going some years back, I did the "retail" thing, and quickly found that most on roster guns kinda sucked... after finding good ol' CGN marketplace, I picked up a nice collection of mostly off roster stuff, some cheap, others rare enough that I paid a premium, because... that was the only option for a firearm that might turn up once a year or less in the wild in CA. I've sold with a small premium where a gun that just didn't work for me after I set it up the way I wanted, but the buyer appreciated the configuration. Sometimes it takes a while for the right buyer to come along, but if the price is remotely reasonable, one will!
