Prodigy or shadow 2

Which one would you choose if you could get a deal on either? Both full size.

Based on the prices I see on PPT Prodigy's $2500-$3000, I would much rather pay $2000 for a nice Optics ready Shadow 2.

If I was able to buy them both at retail, I would still go for the Shadow 2, personally I don't see a big benefit to 2011 platforms if they aernt well made, entirely out of billet parts. I don't like buying any 1911's that are made with MIM parts. The S2 also fits my hand much better, and overall feels like a higher quality gun.

If you are going to spend $2500-$3000 for a Prodigy, I would just pay $3000-$3500 and get a Staccato P, or wait and pick up the new HD that's coming on roster. Much higher quality gun, shoots better than both.

I’ve owned quite a few CZs over the years. Admittedly not a S2. All of them worked over by CZC or CGW. The A01-LD was probably the nicest shooting. My SP-01 with SAO conversion almost rivals my 2011 triggers. After everything and years of shooting CZs and 2011s, 2011 won my heart. The only CZ left in the collection now is my SP-01 SAO. Everything else is 2011. I will also say the lowest end 2011 I own is Staccato. I don’t have interest in the Prodigy.

If you’re dead set Prodigy vs S2, I’d get the S2 and have it converted to SAO. And this is coming from a die hard 1911/2011 guy. Unless you’re willing to bump up your funding. Also, even staccatos, I prefer different grips like Cheely E2 that eliminate the grip safety, ultimately giving you that CZ grip style.

I will have a S2 at some point, if I just stop finding 2011s and Nightvision that keep taking my funds lol

If you’re going to use it for USPSA, you have to decide whether you want to shoot Carry Optics or Limited Optics. If you’re going to carry it, you have to decide if you want to put the hammer down manually on the Shadow 2 before holstering it because it doesn’t have a decocker and the thumb safety is terrible. If you’re not comfortable doing that, go with the Prodigy. If you just want to shoot it at the range, you have to decide if you want double action/single action, or single action only. Just keep in mind that the Prodigy will require more break in to run smoothly and reliably than the Shadow 2 will, and you will probably be inspired to upgrade some internal parts on the Prodigy (although many people don’t). I have two 5” Prodigies, but both have been upgraded quite a bit. One is out for DLC coating right now. I’ve never owned a Shadow 2, but I sold three SP-01s when I switched from Carry Optics to Limited Optics. I still like that platform, though. I carry a CZ PCR every day (although that might change once I get a chance to try out the Staccato HD P4 CA in an IWB holster).

In answer to your question, I would choose the Shadow 2, but only because I already own two Prodigies. If I didn’t, I would go with the Prodigy.
