I have a shoulder holster and the problem with that is you have to wear some kind of a jacket / wind beaker to conceal the weapon, in the CA heat, especially for a husky guy I would image that would be uncomfortable. I'm a big but not husky guy and I find wearing a jacket, 6 months out of the year in SoCal is pretty darn uncomfortable.
My buddy is a big guy, and he uses shoulder holster. During the hot days, he wears a one-size larger 'fishing shirt' (see link below.)
These fishing shirts are designed to wear in hot weather for UV protection, quick dry, and very comfortable. I have a couple myself, and I sometimes carry 3 o'clock OWB wearing them.
Give it a try, they are pretty comfy.
