Recommended portable music player

It’s funny you mentioned that cause I’ve been thinking of getting an old iPod classic refurbished off eBay for like 1-200$. I don’t see the point paying Spotify a 150$ a year for music you don’t get to own.

Also bring back cd players and ash trays in cars please. I’m trying to burn a love playlist cd for my boo thang like the old days

Thanks, ordered one of those and a 250 gig card.
Seems a simple transfer of files is needed. Not sure if it plays 24 bit files, I have those here being an Audio engineer.

I can't do 4 bit MP3. I like 24 bit or FLAC 16 bit files.
You're going to need more than 256gb then I think, no? I usually just stick to 16bit flac. 24 takes up a ton of space.

Multi terabyte cards are a couple hundred bucks. I'll use cheaper smaller cards, more than one.

One for each bunch of CDs, others for my own projects and recording history that goes back to the 1970's. I did a few albums back then. Anyone remember the Mentors, Felony or the D i c k i e s?

What headphones / ear buds do you have?

I have these open back massive headphones but just so cumbersome to have on sometimes. And it gets so hot to use during the summer. I ended up getting some more comfortable in ear monitors for home listening.

I have Sony studio cans, small Sony ear buds and large and heavy planars that do sound amazing. I can also patch this player into the 1/8" line input jack on my Kenwood car stereo. The Crystal dacs in this player might be better than what is in the Kenwood. I have those converters here on a factory demo/evaluation board.

Player showed up today, one day delivery without prime.

Solid build, I formatted the card in the player. Charged up. Ready to dump files from my computer. It does up to 24 bit 192k sample rate. It also does DSD. Pretty good for seventy bucks.

How's the UI? X5 needed a little tweaking to make it usable.

I use a 1st generation iPhone SE (the one that looks like an iPhone 5S) as my dedicated music player mostly because it's small, has a headphone jack, and parts to repair it are still available on ebay. It also still has access to the music streaming services on top of local storage.
