Thanks for being honest. Man I really jumped into the deep end on this one. This magnum load prob be better for central states with bigger game huh?

I hunt and use a .270 and I like to practice a lot. Whenever I’m going to buy a rifle I plan to use a fair bit I’ll at least do a cursory search on sportsman’s warehouse site and look at ammo prices and availability for that cartridge. This is why I ended up going .243 instead of .260 or 7-08 for my sons first deer rifle.

I got my son a CVA scout II in .243 for his first deer rifle. He’s killed a ton of wild pigs with it but no deer . I’m going to get him a .308 for a HS graduation gift in June.

I bet if you shot a full box of Hornady Outfitter 160 grain CX at 100 yards you could put all 20 rounds in a 2 inch or less circle.

That's plenty good for hunting out to 350 to 400 yards, more than enough for hunting in CA.

It may not be the best shooting ammo, it may not be the best ammo produced, but I'd bet you a dollar it'll be good enough; and you won't have to spend hundreds of dollars and hours of your life shooting 3 shot groups from 6 different brands of ammo only to be left with about 100 rounds of ammo you don't think shoots well so you'll never use for hunting (and won't use for practice because it's not the ammo you hunt with).
