This has been posted multiple times now. Honestly not seeing it as a big deal. They want a theft deterrent.

Too much potential for abuse. It’s a system run by humans, and some humans consistently abuse whatever authority they hold. Add to that the misread license plate issues that are happening too often, getting innocent people detained for literally nothing.

It’s way too much Big Brother for me. And the likelihood is Flock cameras would help me out way more than they’d ever hurt me, I’m a boring, law abiding old guy, but I still hate living in a surveillance state.

My issue isn't with the cameras themselves its the lack of any checks when it comes to their usage. It should require a warrant to search someone's license plate through this system. If they are scanning bluetooth, you need a warrant to access that information etc. Warrants have to be tailored and as specific as possible, no "list every car that has driven on this street in the last week" bull they try to do with cell phone towers pinging.

That goes against the constitution. my fellow sonic lover bro, I can even lookup people's license plate hits and I'm not even a cop. lol.

I haven’t had to make that decision yet, but state run surveillance cameras might help me decide to find another range. I’d definitely let the management know that CCTV wouldn’t bother me, but Flock would.

How much does the range make from the Flock system? It generates income for the local government, do they pay to surveil private property too?

Flock isn't a surveillance camera... we've had surveillance camera for decades. It's a massive network that uses ai image recognition. None of the cameras are owned by the government, or in this case the private business. The cameras are leased, and I highly suspect that flock has full access to the data collected by the cameras.

If it isn't big brother already then it is a step towards big brother.

None of the cameras are owned by the government, or in this case the private business. The cameras are leased, and I highly suspect that flock has full access to the data collected by the cameras.

This is a real disappointment, because it is an excellent range. Maybe the best outdoor range in SoCal for zeroing weapons, teaching kids away from the concussive environment of an indoor firing line, etc. But in a community/subculture that is deeply entrenched in exercising rights and championing freedom it’s seem like a pretty tone deaf move. You don’t give up freedom for security. I would hope we all know that Ben Franklin quote along those lines. We spend a lot of time talking about the founding fathers, why ignore them on this? Even if you have “nothing to hide” why would you want your movements documented, analyzed by very fallible AI and shared (for profit) through a network of private information brokers?

Everybody is entitled to have their own line about what they’re willing to accept when it comes to infringement upon their personal freedoms. Some are willing to give it up for candy bars. Don’t. Freedoms are easily lost and almost never regained.

As for R66, yelling at them to change is unlikely to have the desired effect. It’s a real shame, but their choices have already been made. We can only control our own choices and what we support with our votes and our money.

Which freedom is that per US constitution

Actually, it pre-dates the US Constitution by 11 years. It’s covered in the Declaration of Independence. The second of the three unalienable rights, “Liberty”.

I don’t know that the definition of Liberty is ever final. It is evolving with the times and it’s important to recognize that it is not the government, but still (250 years later) We The People that decide what it means.

Well it saves me from ever having to go there to check them out now that I have moved back. Considering what I have seen from R66 on Reddit and here doesn’t seem like that much of a loss to me though.
