I don’t think it matters at this point. The people who are still mad will remain mad, and the people who have moved on have already moved on.I think that is the info most people here would like to know

What about the people here still bickering about it?I don’t think it matters at this point. The people who are still mad will remain mad, and the people who have moved on have already moved on.

you should make a thread about it and see if people complain in there too like here
and such the search queries spans the entire network of cameras. Quite overly broad....
law enforcement officers can search for things such as, hypothetically, "green sedan with American flag bumper sticker," or, "pickup truck with paint scratches on left side and dirt bike in truck bed."...
Heightens their security and anti theft risk by a lot that’s for sure.To bring this back on topic, the real question is why would a business want this on their property? There has to be some problem, or potential problem, this solves.
Does it lower your insurance premiums? Is it a requirement from your alarm system? Does the local LEA mandate it as part of your business license?
Makes me wonder just how much theft they have experienced ?Heightens their security and anti theft risk by a lot that’s for sure.

The topic of this thread: is [unfairly] targeting R66 literally accusing them of installing Flock cameras to spy on patrons. To bring this back on topic, the real question is why would a business want this on their property? There has to be some problem, or potential problem, this solves.

The privacy portion is access controls and auditing. They should be able to handle this in a straight forward way. The reality is it helps LEO which is why they want it, but it also is unbounded because of the way technology is moving. People understand tech companies are consuming everything. The topic of this thread: is [unfairly] targeting R66 literally accusing them of installing Flock cameras to spy on patrons.
R66 is an FFL/Shop + range. This is the 3rd range I heard of taking them down. Gun stores are particularly vulnerable to burglaries and break-ins having those firearms end up on the streets.
In all likelihood they’re a lot more common than we think and few are paying attention to the privacy concerns.
I’ve been seeing videos of Bay Area LE agencies showing operations catching criminals. Now that cities are taking them down they’re not at all shy about saying the Flock cameras hurting their ability to solve crimes.
Also, a lot of issues we’re learning about Flock is after the fact: Oshkosh, WI voted 7-0 to cancel the Flock contract they approved 24 hours earlier. Basically, the police chief said the Flock rep misrepresented what the system does with regard to privacy:

Oshkosh council rescinds Flock camera contract after ‘false statements’
Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith said members of his agency brought him security information about the product that conflicted with what Flock Safety representatives shared with the council Tuesdaywww.wbay.com
I think there’s 2 parts to this:The privacy portion is access controls and auditing. They should be able to handle this in a straight forward way. The irony is when it's done at the federal level with a lot more data people stay quiet because it's their guy in charge. The reality is its a concerted effort to make the US like China since we know who admires Xi's power. The only difference is we're using companies like Anthropic/OpenAI/Palantir/Flock etc vs State owned agencies and its funded by the same people that tell you to hate on the people that's not them, while they pull the strings.

It's really probably neither. They offer the latest generation cameras and subsidize the cost with extra access. Its usually cheaper than a full out cap-ex purchase if the start up is subsidizing it from access to the information. They probably thought it was a good idea because in theory, it's not a bad system. It works. The problem is the abuse of said system because of the lack of oversight/safeguards proper permissions and retention policies. My most specific issue here is what I view and as the thread title suggests, [unfairly] targeting R66 as if they’re responsible for answering for Flock or government surveillance.
That’s largely correct but in actuality it’s much more problematic:Please correct me if I am wrong, but I though Flock was passive. The systems records and tracks license plates going a specific direction at a specific location.
If LE wants to know about a general description vehicle ( large gray SUV ) in a general area ( DT Pomona ) at a specific time range ( Tuesday afternoon ) then Flock can give them a list.
Right ?
