Shield plus as ccw for lefty

Is this completely impractical? Wanting to get my first ccw pistol and the roster makes it tough to decide. I really want a shield plus but from all the research I've done the safety only being on the left side is a deal breaker. Can't afford 1300+ for off roster. I'm torn between the shield plus, p365, and canik mete mc9, or should I consider a glock 26 gen 3? Does anyone have experience with either of these as a lefty? My budget is $700 and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a shield plus with a carry comp slide and I’m a lefty. I switched the mag release to the opposite side and trained myself to hit the slide lock by pulling up with my right thumb when pulling the slide back. I don’t use the safety at all. I really love how slim and concealable the gun is and it shoots pretty accurate. Adding a hogue grip made it super comfortable and less irritation on the stomach when carrying appendix. Yeah it would’ve been nice to have it ambi like the M&P9 2.0, but it’s still a great gun.

The safety is so small and stiff that I never used it when I had a shield plus because it's hard to activate/deactivate fast. You don't need the external safety because it has a trigger dingus safety. the p365 has a safety but only because there's no trigger dingus safety. Glock 26 is a trigger dingus with no external safety. Canik is the same. So I just wouldn't worry about the safety you don't need it, just need a good holster.

I"m left handed. The original P365 is one of the guns I carry. I've changed the grip module to a Wilson, as the original texture feels like a cheese grater on when it's holstered IWB.

Keep the safety on until you put it in the holster, then turn it off, tuck away, then get on with your day.

If you want more confidence with a thumb safety over the “dingus” feature, than P365 or Hellcat are more your flavor.

When doing the live fire, Does your IA make sure you can safely manipulate the safety?

Al new

Can't afford off roster and the roster approved model will have a manual safety
the 43x probably will not have a manual safety, the roster only requires a safety and the trigger dingus qualifies. That said the Shield plus is an objectively better pistol in every way haha.

A Hogue Grip Sleeve solves that, and makes the grip slightly larger for better purchase for most hand sizes.

The Sig P365 manual safety is ambidextrous.

WHY do you think that using the thumb safety is necessary? On a 1911, yeah, absolutely. On a modern striker-fired gun with a trigger dingus, uh, not really...

As a first-time user, are you gonna be consistent enough to release that tiny safety nub in a stress-fire situation? It might actually get you killed...

Are you looking for more assurance while reholstering? Are you looking for "snatch resistance" (to slow down the bad guy)? What's the rationale here?

Have you taken any training??

Have you considered getting a DAO snubbie as your first CCW gun? That long, heavy trigger pull is safer than any semi-automatic.

P.S. As a lefty in a two-handed draw, you CAN reach over to push down the Shield's safety with your right thumb and it will only slow you down by a fraction of a second. BUT, that "manual of arms" fails hard when your right hand is busy doing something else.

P.P.S. I love my Shields. I have 1.0, 2.0, and X. Totally recommended!

No ccw training yet. Year's of experience safely handling firearms made for righties as a lefty, yes. Main concern is being able to safely and reliably manipulate the safety during live fire. If i went with the either shield then I would just carry with the safety off.

HK VP9K. Great carry gun and fully ambidextrous for a left handed user. You have the paddle on both sides and slide release

The safety is a deal breaker but you’re considering a Canik and asking about a Glock…neither of which have a safety. Just get the shield plus and carry it my guy.

All honesty though the controls on the Canik are very lefty friendly, I used to shoot my Canik tti combat in matches till I decided to sell it and get a HD3.6 for ccw. But my shield plus carry comp is also on my permit and I carry it often cause it disappears under a shirt more easily than the thick staccato.
