Shipping a rifle

I did a search, but I didn’t come up with anything useful. I need to ship a rifle back to Springfield armory for warranty work. They are going to give me a prepaid return label for FedEx. I’m just curious if there’s anything I need to know when I go drop it off at FedEx? Any help would be appreciated.

I had to do the same recently. Because we’re In the peoples republic of kommiefornia, they would only email the shipping label to a FFL of my choice. They said all I needed to do was bring the rifle pre-boxed, ready to go and the FFL would do the rest. Not exactly how it went down. My LGS, made me open my perfectly packed box with my M1A in it so that they can verify everything. Had to re-tape everything back up. It was PITA to coordinate the email from Springfield to my LGS. After all said and done, my LGS charged me $10 to deal with the issue.

They are going to give me a prepaid return label for FedEx.

A few years ago I had to send a revolver to S&W. They sent me a FedEx label and I had to drop off the box at the main hub. You might be able to schedule a pick-up, but I'm not sure if they still do that since they recently changed their rules. You can't go to the FedEx desk at Staples or those "Mailbox Etcetera" shops either. They won't accept firearms.

A certain Czech company told me to do just that. I boxed it up, took it into the store with my pre paid table provided by them, and when asked what was in the box,I told them Sporting goods just like the Czech company told me to say.

2 weeks later the rifle was mailed directly to my house. Easy peasy.

Make sure to use a no obvious box which was hard to find. I ended up using a led t8 shop light box.

If it's a prepaid label, you don't even have to tell them what's in the box. Just hand it over and get a receipt with tracking, smile, and say thanks. Hope you get it back quickly and fixed!

Springfield told me to take it to an FFL and have them ship it. They also require that it gets shipped back to an FFL. I took it to rifle supply in Huntington Beach and they were very helpful. Since I had a pre-paid shipping label from Springfield, there was no cost on my end. Guy behind the counter said if I had shipped it out myself and had it shipped back to them….they would have had to run a background check on me and treat it like a new rifle. Overall a good experience so far.

Glad to hear it went OK. Yeah, Rifle Supply is pretty good at knowing their stuff.
