That's a nice pistol. If they release it in CA I might pick one up but I'm not paying $4k for it off roster. I'm also close to my "pratical" limit for SAO pistols. I shoot my Shadow 2 (in SA) better than many 2011's and besides a couple 2011's, I'm waiting on the CZ TS3

Got mine for 2800 brand new with mags and some stuff for it. Just had to be patient till I found someone asking a more reasonable price. I agree $4k is too much even in the off-roster world but I know most go for around $3500 so it sucks.

Whatever replaces it, if anything replaces it, I'm betting it has a Glock syle trigger safety. When the P320/M17/M18 was submitted for the military trials, Glocks patent on their trigger safety hadn't yet expired.

I wonder how it would bode for Sig considering the constant lawsuits. If they basically re-brand the 320 and add a trigger safety, it would almost be like admitting or acknowledging that there was an issue with their initial design, especially if they discontinue the 320 altogether.

I'm well aware. I was around during that time of all the "Glock leg" lawsuits back in the 80's and 90's. My statement was made in the context that unscrupulous lawyers and litigants going after Sig are going to try to use it as ammo against Sig if they adopt a Glock style trigger. They will try to use it as a "gotcha" moment. I doubt it will work, but it won't stop them from trying.

I am in Sig's backyard and have to deal with all their arguably ty employees and cannibalizing prices all the time.

I am certain I can figure something out.

Be interesting to see if they redesign the FCU towards the 365 design (functionally). Can't imagine them moving away from it altogether; or moving away from backwards compatibility to mags and some of the aftermarket parts they could logically carry forward.

That's a good point. I have read that their adding a safety to the P320 was used as ammo against Sig, implying that they were admitting there was a problem with the versions that didn't have a safety.

I agree. Once you have what you need, it becomes hard to justify needing more. Jeff Cooper in his GunSite letter’s wrote that from 1900-2000 he saw only three innovations: take down lever action from Wild West Guns, Blaser straight pull bolt action rifle, and I forget the third. As for pistols, the removable FCU has been the only thing I’ve seen that really seems new. Don’t get me wrong. There are nice iterative improvements over time but if what you have is reliable you don’t NEED to get more. I’d course, the gun industry needs to sell more to stay in business so lots what is new is marketing hype. I have seen two and now on a third rotation of shotguns, lever actions, PCC, semi auto rifles being hyped as the new trend much in the same way kitchen and home styling changes. Part of why the introduce new calibers as it help sales. Sure, some of them do have a modest gain over tried and true but rarely enough to matter for the average user. I had all that I needed in the early 1990s and I could have happily lived with just half dozen or so firearms. Rest really has been excess and not sure if money well spent out se.

Optic ready handguns have been a big change the last decade. That was unheard of when I was a kid.

Another massive development was the Navy inventing reliable SBR’s which almost killed off the need for SMG’s. Nobody knew how to make a rifle cycle reliably with those short 10” barrels.

Once again Sig making rolling changes to a platform to fix problems they know they have. Well at the same time making no effort to upgrade or fix customers' existing platforms.

I'm so done with Sig until they have a platform that has lasted 10 years with no rolling changes and still offer support for.

When you call into Sig, your first available option to route to is the P320 upgrade program. And, gun itself has been out for 12 years - kind of makes sense to advance a new model. Heck, even the P365 has been out for 8 years with no substantial changes to it.
